Iron Maiden News, Links, and Interviews

The interviews almost exclusively focus on the early days prior to NOTB. Plus an excerpt from Infinite Dreams which I didn't read because I'm getting that book for Christmas and don't want to spoil it.

This is an excerpt from a new interview with Steve. He said he would like to play more songs from the Blaze era in the future, he still likes them a lot:

''I didn't have to fight to get those songs in the set. And I’d like to do a couple more from that era as well at some point, because I think Bruce would do a great job with them, and they’re songs that I'd love to play again''.

That's awesome to hear from him again. Steve is more open to play deep cuts (from the Blaze era too!), Bruce will have the final say on them. RFYL Part 2 or new album tour is the opportunity for the Blaze era.

When Bruce came back it was a wonderful thing to certain degree. But I wasn’t a hundred per cent sure of the reasons behind it. So I was like, ‘Well, okay, let’s see.’ And it was great. We did a great tour, and from then on it was alright. It’s been great ever since. But at the time, I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure.

You have to put things to one side. I think the older you get, the easier it is to deal with, in the sense that you just bite your tongue and get on with it. You don't let things get bogged down where they might have done a few years before. You know, people are tough to live with anyway. I mean, everyone is. So you just have to work out what works for everybody. And I think with a band, you just learn when to leave people alone.

Bruce is unusual, put it that way. Which is probably what makes him so good. He’s got an unusual quality to his voice. But it’s difficult to talk about other people and analyse what they are or what they're not.

It’s not that I’m totally, brutally honest with absolutely everything. You have to be diplomatic to a certain degree in all walks of life. But you also have to do whatever you think is right. It’s never easy making the big decisions. It’s not comfortable. But when the chips are down, you have to stand up and be counted.

BNW is a really good album.

To be fair to Bruce, he didn't have a problem doing those songs. He never put up a fight or said, ‘I don’t want to do them because it’s not my era. It was the same with songs from the first two albums when he first joined the band. Bruce is a team player when it comes to that type of thing. He knows that it’s the history of the band, whatever period. He wasn’t there for all of it, but he realises how important it all is.
And I respected him for that, definitely. But also, I suppose there's maybe an element that he wanted to prove that he could do this songs better, perhaps, or differently, or whatever. I don't know. That’s what I’d like to think. But I never actually sat him down and asked him that question. I just said, ‘You fancy doing these?’ And he was like, ‘Yeah, I'll do it.’

So they think of touring more. That ends the rumors of retiring and confirms steve is looking to play more rare songs. If there is no new album that would be something cool to see

Yes, that's why it's odd that 2027 will be a holiday, but maybe they need a break for the next chapter of the band, be it 5+ years. Let's hope future setlists will be more interesting, it's up to Bruce. And doing more tours, I think it will be with new album/s. A pure deep cuts tour is a wildest dream.

They must redefine their plans and goals. What to do next, who wants to retire or be an active musician for the next few years, what kind of activity to choose, to record brand new stuff or not (?) - so many questions. Obviously, the production and mixing of a new live album and DVD from the current tour is a new challenge that needs more time.

They have said many times they still want to tour. The record is what is not clear

Well the rumours of retirement will never cease until they actually do retire, then those people will be able to say "Told you so"... yeah, though it would have been much more impressing prediction if you hadn`t been telling so for the last 30 years! Maiden in the 2030s, never doubted it personally. Actually, on the contrary I kinda took it for granted.

One thing I am sceptical though, and this is unsurprisingly about the setlist. At this point no-one should get hyped about Blaze era songs reappearing in the setlist. Pretty much when Steve or Bruce says he wants to play Fortunes of War he actually means Run To The Hills :facepalm::)

Did he said fortunes of war? Or one of the blaze songs? I really hope its edge of darkness or aftermath
