That said, I’ve been getting my Peart itch scratched lately by Mark Zonder (Warlord, Fates Warning), who manages to embody parts of Rush’s mid-80s style pretty well (along with a heaping helping of Journey) with his A-Z project with Ray Alder. Their 2022 debut was solid (with excellent drumming), and the single from their upcoming 2025 album sounds like it’s in the same vein but a bit heavier, and without any weird vocal phrasing issues.
A-Z is a good project, I’m excited to hear more.

Ray Alder has always had weird phrasing. It’s one of the main things that kept me from loving Fates Warning. He has an absolutely amazing voice and his tone is perfect, but his writing is sometimes awkward or lifeless. Kinda like Tom Englund in Evergrey.

Pros:
- Well, the fact that Neil's wife and daughter are supporting this.
- There will be an additional keyboard player, therefore ditching the power trio format, which was only possible with Neil.
- They will be finally playing live again.

Cons:
- Calling this Rush. Should be Lee & Lifeson IMO.

I don’t like this.

I'm torn. I'm disappointed Rush are another band to say they're gonna call it quits and bow out gracefully, only to come back with a new tour later. Even though I sincerely doubt there's any greed or ulterior motive behind this and it is a genuine celebration of and urge to play Rush's music again, it still bugs me for some reason.

Well, they didn't play the farewell card... Them saying that after Neil passed is understandable, as is them not touring as Neil didn't want to past 2015.

So, I wouldn't crucify them in the same vain as Phil Collins, Kiss and Scorpions deserve to be with their cash grab farewells.

As I said, the only problem I have with this is calling it Rush...

A little joke...

So many bands replaced drummers in 2025 that Rush decided to replace theirs, who passed 5 years ago and bring the band back to life.

But really, how many drummers have been swapped this year. I have never seen anything like this.

Plan to drive to 1 of the Ft Worth shows.
Might never get a chance to see those 2 on stage together again.
Interesting that the show will be 3 weeks after I see the Rush Tribute Project!

They’ve generally been quite good about putting out blu-rays for their tours, so I’ll probably go that route, since there aren’t any shows particularly close by, and Geddy was already starting to sound a bit rough on the higher end on R40…

Agree it should've been titled Lifeson & Lee but I imagine the promoter twisted their arms into using the Rush name because it's guaranteed to sell more tickets.

I don't worry about another drummer stepping in like I did with Nicko because Neil was basically a machine without much in the way of "feel". Amazing drummer for sure but I feel like there are plenty of talented players who could do his parts justice without spoiling the alchemy of their sound.

Incorrect.

There are a lot of drummers who technically play the notes in sequence on paper, at time. There is no one who will sound like Neil.

Do I need go through all my old posts and tediously add "in my opinion" to them so people don't get the wrong end of the (drum)stick?

TBH, she has a lot of that Neil feel. And was recomended by Skully, Geddy's long-time guitar tech (recently works for Joe Satriani too), who worked for Jeff Beck when Anika was playing with him. He should know how Rush's drums should sound like.

??? I thought it was clear that your comment and our responses were all matters of personal opinion…

Hmm it’s easy for me to get to Madison Square Garden by train I guess I have a decision to make.

I’d love a sneak peek at the 35 songs they have identified for the setlist.

You're right, I was being needlessly snappy there.

I wonder if this tour will come to Europe. Would be a nice way to make up for the fact that R50 didn't but I'd understand if they're done with extensive touring at their age.

I`m wondering if they will bring it to Europe too, i would try and get to see it for sure.

It was great to see the two of them having so much fun and looking genuinely excited to play the Rush stuff live again.

I can only imagine their amusement to find so many people finding it odd that two members of Rush touring the music of Rush with the blessing of the missing members family and paying tribute to him every night shouldn`t call themselves Rush anymore.
