I think that maybe they dont want to record without nicko? It is , nobody said otherwise, it`s the entitled view that`s the issue as i think we can all see, not the actual wish for new music.
Agree, Maiden live is more my thing at this stage of their career, but not the same for everyone. I guess the term brand and not band wasn`t a typo though!
Maiden have long since passed the point that they need to prove that ridiculous point to anyone, unless you have missed the 50 year back catalogue.
Agreed, and in my opinion they do that still with ease
If they wanna record a brand new album, they should enter the studio with their new drummer and capture his live energy as a part of brand new line up trademark, as they did with Nicko back in the days. The new producer, a real active producer not just Harris' "remote finger" - this is something they really need to create a really pro-quality album. That's all within their hands.I think that maybe they dont want to record without nicko?
Im still thinking that nicko is part of the band. And as rhey can record his parts in a different way i prefer nicko on the drums. If they wanna record a brand new album, they should enter the studio with their new drummer and capture his live energy as a part of brand new line up trademark, as they did with Nicko back in the days. I think Nicko is done now and Simon is in the band. Whether or not that is a live only band or a recording band too remains to be seen.Im still thinking that nicko is part of the band. And as rhey can record his parts in a different way i prefer nicko on the drums.
But I would love new album. However I think that biggest obstacle here is probably Steve opinion on Simon in relation to Iron Maiden sound. Until now Steve and Nicko were the backbone of band rhytm section. At this stage of career, with legacy that they have, this can be a huge factor in Steve mind.
2027 is more for Bruce's album, 2028 most likely. In the video halfway to the 2025 leg of the tour, when Bruce said "there is a lot more stuff ahead of us I can't talk about, otherwise they have to kill me", I thought this cannot be anything other than a new album. I don't think he meant filming of Paris Show, or the Knebworth gig in 2026 (or the big surprise that they won't be touring in 2027). Teasing for an album that will be released in 2027/2028 may be too early, but what else (that is so important) could it be?
Idk how the material in BL is written, but it's probably different for Steve live and in the studio. But he has songwriting experience with Simon in mind, so that's good. His longer material is probably a bit tricky now. The overall statement should be true.I don't think this is an issue. Steve picked Simon to be the new Maiden drummer, I doubt he has any reservations about him.
I want to have Nicko, but you're probably right (how he is part of the band then?). He knows he can't deliver the best, the complex drumming, especially for a whole album (does it matter how it is recorded; would they put an extra work, they will have a whole year off), and maybe only for a song or two- which would be atypical for Maiden. He said he ''could play'' on a song or two, so he's not that sure.I think Nicko is done now and Simon is in the band. Whether or not that is a live only band or a recording band too remains to be seen.
But Steve always says he/they have a lot of ideas, the creativity is not a problem. Too much material/songs on recent albums, well, that's because of the long epics. Creative drought? Intense periods of creativity are normal, especially for different songwriters. He probably spends the most time writing (within their time frame, which is stressful) and ofc helping to shape the others ideas, it's mainly on him.I honestly think it's more that Steve isn't bursting with crestivity when it comes to Maiden material like he was when he was younger. He has British Lion to scratch his musical itch (and their output isn't all that high either). Bruce has his little project and Adrian has one too.
They probably do have enough left in them to produce a solid Maiden album, but if they're not brimming with enough ideas, no point in flying everyone from around the world to try and force out a new album just because.
I suspect that's been the case with the last two albums too. A bit of a creative drought, followed by a short intense period of creativity where they suddenly ended up with a LOT of material to cram into one album. Steve's 'epic to end all epics' bids like Red and the Black, and Hell On Earth, while Bruce was clearly massively into Empire of the Clouds (obsessively so, maybe!) and maybe Darkest Hour, too, another of his pet obsessions. Writing on the Wall was quite a new look for Maiden too that smacks of sudden inspiration.
I think Bruce just like to tease for whatever reason, even for future dates that are expected. That's it.In the video halfway to the 2025 leg of the tour, when Bruce said "there is a lot more stuff ahead of us I can't talk about, otherwise they have to kill me", I thought this cannot be anything other than a new album. Hearing one drummer on the album, but hearing another on a metaphorical/supposed/whatever-the-proper-word-for-it live performance with enough differing styles sounds a little jarring to meI don't understand why some of you guys think Nicko cannot play the drums on the new album. He doesn't have a problem with playing. He made it clear in the interviews that he just can't stand travelling from one city/country to another during tours anymore. He only quit playing live, and he is still a part of the band as far as we know.
Then, I guess the question is, will Steve Harris agree with you or not...Hearing one drummer on the album, but hearing another on a metaphorical/supposed/whatever-the-proper-word-for-it live performance with enough differing styles sounds a little jarring to me
Which interview are you alluding to please?Idk how the material in BL is written, but it's probably different for Steve live and in the studio. The interview with Steve from today gives us a lot more hope about new music, I think he'll have a different view on the matter when they're on a holiday in 2027. Bruce pushing to record with Simon is key. They can't be a cabaret band.
Which interview are you alluding to please?
What I will say is that based on his performance towards the end of the Future Past tour I didn't think there was any point in recording with him, he was REALLY struggling at that point.I don't understand why some of you guys think Nicko cannot play the drums on the new album. He doesn't have a problem with playing. He made it clear in the interviews that he just can't stand travelling from one city/country to another during tours anymore. According to Steve, he has enough "old stuff" to record several albums. He is to be believed on that matter, as his four contributions on the last one show he is not short of ideas. One must also remember that he didn't write When the Wild Wind Blows during the FF sessions, as he had written that song long before and kind of lost it somehow; he just had to arrange it. So he tends to write musical themes and melodies all the time, but only turns them into proper songs when they have dcided to record an album.I honestly think it's more that Steve isn't bursting with crestivity when it comes to Maiden material like he was when he was younger. He has British Lion to scratch his musical itch (and their output isn't all that high either). Bruce has his little project and Adrian has one too.

His Titanium Tart gig earlier this year was LOADS better, to the point that I'd be happy to hear him on a record again.
That said, I think it would be a shame to have Simon take a back seat when it comes to studio time. It seems like he's a member of the band now rather than just a hired gun. I'd be curious to see what influence he'd have on the sound and feel of an album.
