What are the top 5 worst Maiden songs?

Yeah, that part. It's obviously just my subjective experience, not making any factual statements. The change from E minor to E major in those sections sounds far too "happy-go-lucky" to me, for lack of a better term.
It definitely sounds happy, but I think it was on purpose because the lyrics say "as WE kill them all". So the hero of the song is happy at this stage. I always interpreted it that way.

That's fair. I'm not saying it doesn't make sense; power metal bands do similar sections in their songs all the time. It just doesn't align with my tastes and with what I was expecting from the rest of the song after the badass intro, verse and chorus.

these songs caused real disappointment and a "disturbance in the force":

angel and the gambler
dont look to the eyes of the stranger
shadows of the valley
when the river runs deep
death of the celts
I think we must be polar opposites. I genuinely love the first four of these songs (Stranger is my favorite Maiden song of all time, and the two TBOS songs some of my faves on that album). Celts is the only one that really disappointed me and is probably my least favorite on Senjutsu.

Montsegur's happy chorus rips, fuck all y'all. :p

In all seriousness, it does feel a little jarring compared to the heavy badassery of the rest of the song... but I don't care, it's a fun section and the rest of the song is too good to let a little out-of-place moment bring it down.

The hatred that Weekend Warrior gets is out of place. It is a good song. Great guitar leads, catchy and aggressive chorus. No masterpiece, and of course we can wonder why Maiden tried to be AC/DC here, but it is still much better than true crap like Angel And The Gambler, Tears of a Clown or El Dorado.
I dig everything about Weekend Warrior except the acoustic guitar/pre-chorus, and Maiden did better AC/DC-style songs in the 90's, but it's easy to see why the majority of the fans don't like it. It doesn't sound like Maiden at all. But the instrumental section is pure gold!
Final Frontier and Dance of Death are bad albums. They have some decent parts here and there, but no songs that are good from start to finish. And many of them are even very bad, or at least worse than the bad songs on FOTD or VXI. So I could probably name 5 random tracks from these albums.
^Different opinions, but wow. Big disagree.
Add to that the obnoxious amount of repeating the same line in the outro (I though y'all hated that on TAATG, despite there being tons of variation? ;) )
It's different when the song is short/er (well, not every time... Rain On The Graves... or Sun And Steel), the one in Angel and Gambler is just too much, although as a song it's fun and I enjoy it. I like the guitar licks under the last repeats of the chorus in the outro, so SIT.
Montsegur starts out incredibly heavy. Super cool main riff and the verses are great. The normal chorus is nice as well, but then comes the section that sounds as if it is taken from a children's song or something. Total mood whiplash and almost ruins the song for me.
I understand you, but I think it fits the album's overall mood and the catchy/power metal melodic riffs of the song. Also the riffs under the chorus. I have no problem with it. It would have been a huge live song, too bad they didn't play it. It sounds classic Maiden. Janick!
My criticism of this song is that it’s too generically NWOBHM early 80’s metal.
IMO, Total Eclipse and Gangland are about the same caliber of song as each other and Invaders. Those three tracks from the TNOTB era are like the shed chrysalis husk of Maiden metamorphosing from their early sound to their more complex one.
Well said.
Sun And Steel: Kinda combines my issues with the previous tracks. Bruce is doing his best to annoy me and the truly obnoxious chorus just keeps being repeated for ever. People keep complaining about TAATG but that one at least had the decency to change each chorus up by either altering the dynamics or the chord progression (or both). Sun And Steel (and a few other tracks on POM really) just keep repeating the same part far too often.
Some repetitive choruses with no variation are worse than others - and Sun And Steel is such a case for me. Unlike Brave New World, for example. Also the instrumental section is too short to bring something. It's the most filler-y song on the album.
Senjutsu (the most boring, bloated, piece of crap song they’ve ever released)
Because of the drumming style, but it and the vocal and guitar ideas makes it one of the most interesting songs in the band's discography for me.

The 3 first songs senjutsu ..they havent done anything as good since BNW. I will not say AMOLAD becuase diffetent world is not as good as the othets

I don't have a definitive Top 5 (or should I say a bottom 5) but whenever I listen to Look For The Truth I'm like "nah bro...". My least favourite from The X Factor and not to mention, the very first song from the record I heard and hence The X Factor didn't leave a good enough impression on me at first.

The Apparition though does not have anything bad in it on paper but the execution is not much solid. Maiden really tried to go for that AC/DC sound but you need a swagger to say "Not 16 but we have made 17 records that sound the same" to someone's face and Maiden does not fall in this category. Unironically, I found "More Tea Vicar" where they actually nailed that attitude and its not even an album song!

Not much into Virus either. Didn't interest me musically or even lyrics wise.

Chronologically, I'd put:

Sanctuary
The Assassin
Fear is the Key
Montsegur Wildest Dreams (I forgot that this existed until I read someone's review of it here recently)
Mother of Mercy

I never understand the dislike towards Mother of Mercy. I think Maiden trusted that song so they made it the third song in the album. If they have played it on that tour, most people would change their mind. Especially the last part, the vocal melody which is getting angrier with each line, is so cool, formula breaker and a creative way to end a song. (A little X-Factor-ish)

That could very well be true. Apart from that grating chorus, everything else about Mother of Mercy is pretty nice. Is the chorus so bad that it brings down everything else and warrants a place in this list? I think yes.

It's like that bridge in Fear is the Key. I actually like that chorus and the rest of the stuff on that song. That section is also bad enough for it to be on this list. I keep waiting for it with gritted teeth every time I listen to it.

Mother of mercy has a good galloping i like that song. For me has a bit fear of the dark feeling

Easy list for me :
Bring your Daughter
Hooks in You
Darkest Hour (not a single melody, nothing. How the hell such a song has been picked up for, such an album?)
Gangland
Wasting Love

Darkest hour is boring agree with you.
I could say too this songs before reunion
Invaders
Gangland
Quest for fire
Public enema no1. What a title.. ..

Bring Your Daughter I think is only bad in comparison to Bruce's version. Bruce's is slower, moodier, dirtier, slinkier, and I love Janick's bright, twangy guitar tone. Maiden's take loses a lot of the attitude and the guitar tones suck.

I'm sure about one thing where we will all agree is that no matter which song(s) you consider the worst, there isn't a single Maiden song which doesn't kicks ass or atleast reedems itself during its soloing section. I named Look For The Truth, The Apparition and Virus before but even those songs check on the above point.
