Iron Maiden News, Links, and Interviews

And we have a new art spawned from the tour. Nice. I think it's possible they could use Akirant for a potential new album. It's a rather interesting art and it definitely has an old school feel to it, but it could have been much more detailed and impressive. He says he's a big fan of the band and Derek and has hidden some references in the art: album arts, songs. Rod is pleased with his work. Little nods to virtually every chapter of the band's journey? Hmm, let's find them then. I don't think all album covers are represented.

RFYL Eddie and the houses - overall a nod to Killers.
the wall - for the the debut.
pyramid - Powerslave.
Mayan pyramid - Book Of Souls.
Pagoda - Senjutsu.
grass and graves - No Prayer/LAD.
light bulb in the sky - Seventh Son.
destroyed building - 2 Minutes.
from Eddie's design - Fear and Somewhere In Time.
clouds - Hooks In You?

That's it, right.

A reference to Hooks in You to celebrate their 50th anniversary?

Those clouds are quite probably a reference to the first album cover artwork.

Akirant is too fancy and colorful. Guessing they’d stick to Tom Wilkinson or maybe go back to Derek (assuming it’s their final album). Plus I think they’d tease the new album in a very different way. Everytime I see the broken wall, it’s like WOTW is automatically registered in my mind. So let’s see what kinda campaign they use for their 18th album

Akirant is doing his best, being a fan and all. But I agree, I find his drawings a little "childish". Mark Wilkinson is my man, he has his signature below many favorite designs from marillion to priest. Much much "mature" with simple but creative ideas.

Don't take Akirant's fun event shirts for example, check out his SJ related artworks and tour posters. One of Maiden's best artists for me.
Wilkinson, a fantastic an iconic Maiden artist, has said he won't be working with Maiden anymore and may have retired, unfortunately. Derek, I highly doubt it. Melvyn Grant would be great. I wonder if it would be another warrior... and please no more empty backgrounds, it's not cool, especially in a row.

About the potential next album's promo campaign, I think the band really enjoyed the SJ one (I have really fond memories, brilliant idea! and the first TWOTW hint) so maybe they'll do it again. Different way? Bruce will have to come up with something and I hope Steve will give interviews this time.

Akirant might be my favorite active Maiden artist at the moment. Some of his LOTB designs were wonky, but from TFP onwards every design of his has been amazing.

I adore Dan Mumford's art style though. Perfect for merchandise, not sure if I like it for album artwork though.

This one by Mark Wilkinson is pretty great. Oh, and he did the artwork for The Book of Souls too. I’d stick with him. But maybe Steve ticked him off with all his constant suggestions.

Didn’t Mark Wilkinson imply he’d had enough of working for Steve during one interview about the Senjutsu artwork?
Seemed like it. It’s kinda interesting though, I feel like the Maiden artwork hasn’t had the same sense of continuity since Riggs. It will be kinda weird if they go with a different art direction than the Mark Wilkinson style (both the plain Eddie against black background and the more detailed inner sleeve art). Imo Wilkinson has become the second most identifiable Maiden artist.

For me BOS and SJ its like the band wanted to create again the first 2 ablums cover. Iron maiden and killers
