I've decided I'm not going to buy these two albums because I don't like their covers and download them instead. By any chance did Derek Riggs paint any 'real' eddie covers for tgem that I can put on my less than legal copy of the CD? Hopefully if enough people do this Maiden will know to keep the master and his excellent Eddie covers. Fear of the Dark, The Wickerman and Brave New World may have different covers, but they still look good [if not as gook as Rigg's].

That'll never, ever, happen, Revenant. Firstly, I don't think it's right that you steal music because you don't like the covers. Here's an idea - buy the album anyway, and stick your fake covers in the legit album's case. That way, you don't have to look at the covers, you have supported Maiden and rewarded them for their work, and you won't piss me off.

Derek Riggs will likely never work again for Iron Maiden. He's bloody tired of Steve, I would imagine. And if memory serves, they bastardized his picture for the BNW album cover with the CG of futuristic London. So that was it for Derek. I miss him too - but that doesn't mean I won't buy the albums.

Do you also intend to not buy Virtual XI, Fear of the Dark, and Rock in Rio? Riggsy didn't do those either.

everybody downloads every day lot of maiden stuff. but if im really into maiden i must have all the albums, singles etc
DOD cover with those silly figures is not much but without them is looking pretty
but X factor is one of the best maiden covers and real butchery

Derek won't come back and work with Maiden. He's said in many interviews already that Maiden used to behave like childish ego-maniacs, took credit for his ideas, edited his artworks and generally wasn't at all that nice to him. I'm not that surprised with it really, as many others have said Sanctuary and Rod are particularly hard to work with. Derek's recent stuff is pretty much crap anyway.

As for not buying albums because of covers, I'd say that's quite egoistic. I've bought lots of albums with covers I dislike, but for me the music is what matters. Sure, a good cover may set the mood for the album, but it's not that important really. Personally, I don't mind the The X Factor cover very much. I dislike the concept and animation way of it, but at least it's well done, which is more than you can say about Dance of Death.

Well put Shadow.

I REALLY don't like the DoD cover, but the music is what we buy the album for, so it shouldn't really matter. DoD is a great album, and the cover accounts for 0.001% of my interest in it... same with X-Factor

Let's be serious here. My CDs sit on my shelf in a row. I can't even see the cover on the end of it, because that's where a speaker is. The only time I actually see the DoD cover is when I take it out to listen to.

Oh, wait.

The only time I actually do *that* is when I have a stereo to put them in. Otherwise, I use the burned copies that exist for my discman. That way if my discman pops open my Powerslave CD isn't trampled, just a copy.

The point of the story is - you don't need to look at a cover.

Hear, hear!
Every Maiden album should be purchased, even if the quality of the cover were to be like my drawings [!--emo&:P--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/tongue.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'tongue.gif\' /][!--endemo--] (drawing is, along with singing, dancing, every sport but football and various other things, something I totally suck at)

There's one word to qualify people with this kind of attitude: pathetic [!--emo&<_<--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/dry.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'dry.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

Revenant, you're serious about this, are you? [!--emo&--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/blink.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'blink.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

in fact I really like X factor CONCEPT (frankenstein or something like that motive), not the way the cover was done

Spot on Maverick. Cd's are bought for the music surely, not the pretty pictures.

Probably [!--emo&:P--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/tongue.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'tongue.gif\' /][!--endemo--]
But it's what's inside that counts

Indeed it is - and what's inside is the best music I have heard for...as long as I can be bothered to think about remembering. If you don't like the covers, well... burn them after you've bought the album - but they work fine for me [!--emo&--][img src=\'style_emoticons/[#EMO_DIR#]/rolleyes.gif\' border=\'0\' style=\'vertical-align:middle\' alt=\'rolleyes.gif\' /][!--endemo--]

am I the only person that actually likes the DoD cover?

No, I like it too, even if it's not the best one...

I like the X-factor's one too. I like the artworks of this period. And I never wonder if Riggs did something better or not : The final choice is Maiden's choice !

If you don't like the cover, make it yourself !

Actusly I've redecided. It wasn't because I didn't think they deserved the money but because I'm only 14 and have a load of other maiden albums im yet to buy on a limeted budget. After hearing Rainmaker and The Journeyman I'm going straight to but DoD tonight, though I'll prob make my own Riggs style cover. I'm not going to buy X-Factor because I was used to the Rock in Rio version which is SO much better. I listened to a bit of the original studio song and blaze bayley was much worse and the whole sound of the song was worse than the rio version. I'm going for DoD, BnW and PoM next [I have Killers, Powerslave and 7th Son].

You may think the RiR version of SotC is better than the X-F one, but you should still buy it......

Many good songs there, such as:
-Judgement of Heaven
-Fortunes of War
-Lord of the Flies

All songs that suit Blaze's voice far better than Bruce's.

There's nothing wrong with downloading songs to listen to them - but do give them a thorough listening before deciding whether or not to buy the album.

Hm well glad you decided to buy them, but anyway, you should give Blaze's albums a chance for sure. By the way, does anybody know what exactly the circumstances around Maiden and Riggsy's parting were?

I didn't really like the blaze era when i had just heard a few songs, but when i bought x-factor(for a year ago or so) I started to listen to it, and really liked the more darker and slower pace of maiden songs.
