Wrathchild acoustic

Paul sure looks different. He should have kept the hair.

It's really a shame he couldn't find success in another band. He looks like he's had a tough life.

I've heard it as well. Paul looks very different these days, from a thin kid with a full head of hair, to a rather large, bald man. Don't take that the wrong way, however! He's still awesome!  :ok:

Unfortunately, looking at that highest rated comment on that video makes me feel quite sorry for the man. He seems delighted to take any gig he can get ahold of, yet he has to go through life knowing that his former band, Iron Maiden are still playing the huge shows, making millions every year, still releasing brilliant album after brilliant album. He may not dwell in the past, but when you put yourself in his shoes, you start to feel kind of sorry for the guy.

And the worst part is, when you've done music your whole life, you have no other skills. He couldn't really just go out and get another job.

On one hand, it is would be sad to be a member of Maiden and then you aren't and then Maiden and the rest of the world passes you by.  On the same token, I found the early days dvd interview with Clive Burr to be touching, because he remarked how he was on the early albums with "that was you, kiddo."

On the other hand...Paul is kind of a douche.  He tried his damn hardest to sink himself, and Maiden along with him.

18 year old high school graduates have no skills and they seem to find jobs.

Dude was 23 when he left Maiden, he could have easily done anything he wanted.  Let's just more accurately say he didn't WANT to do anything but music and here's how it worked out for him.

I'm sick and tired of this fucking washed up loser. It's amazing how for almost 30 years, this fucker has been ripping Maiden off, trying to make a living playing nothing but Maiden songs. Live versions, acoustic versions, 30 year anniversary versions, man shut the hell up and play your own damn music. Didn't he release any albums of his own after Maiden?? I remember seeing a bunch... and yet, his set consists of 98% Maiden. He's a big fat joke. A loser. Nothing more.

Don't be so harsh on Paul. He doesn't cover Maiden all of the time, just Wrathchild from time to time. Paying tribute to your former band isn't a bad thing, and he does have songs of his own, but people happen to upload his Maiden covers more often instead.

I saw Paul play live in Sydney about 4 weeks ago.  He performed the entire Iron Maiden self-titled album except Running Free, plus a number of tracks off Killers and some of his bands other stuff.  It was a great night, we new what to expect as it was billed as a show full of Maiden.  He was a real funny guy, looked a bit like the monster from Goonies too...

At least he can take solace in the fact that many still consider Killers to be one of the best Maiden albums ever recorded. And I'll take him over Blaze any day of the week.

Funny thing, when Bruce and Blaze left the band they moved on to successful solo careers, both releasing great albums. But Paul just couldn't get out of the 80s, and couldn't move on with his life, and decided to play Maiden songs only. Just don't get it.

Yeah, you make a good point. Maybe its because I've been listening to Killers so much lately that I'm defending the guy. But....its not like the band kicked him out because they found a better singer either. He fucked up.

He was dragging everyone else down with him as well. Iron Maiden and Killers are some of the best albums, but as a guy Paul was not being a good band member or friend to the other guys.

At his recent gig Paul was really keen to play his own stuff but the crowd kept chanting for Maiden. The Dianno songs they did play were much heavier and the lead guitarist was quite a shredder. I don't think Paul feels sorry for himself at all. He's still touring the world and playing music...what's to regret?
