Wrathchild acoustic

I remember him saying in the 12 Wasted Years video that he had "personal" problems. I also remember saying to myself that whenever a musician says that, they mean they were fucked up on drugs.

Also, I don't know if any else has noticed this, but at a performance of Prowler he said the song was about his father, when he didn't even write it.  Thats not cool.

I remember he came out with the Nomad album which I thought was good... especially the title track. But why doesn't he play any of these songs live? it's a shame that even his backing band are actually a Maiden tribute... It's not like I hate the guy, but I don't understand what the hell his problem is... He always uses Maiden to promote himself. It's 30 years later, brother, give it up and make something new already! He released a bunch of albums after Maiden... PLAY THOSE LIVE and then people (like myself) will forget how pathetic you used to be  B)

Wow. Was this recent or when he was with the band?

... maybe he just got it confused with Remember Tomorrow.

In the Early Days DVD, they said Paul just started not wanting to go onstage and drinking more. Am I missing something?

I love Paul, in fact I like his singing better than Bruce strictly speaking, and I think it's sad he never got away from his past. What's with all the hate? You don't honestly think he wants to still sing these songs he wrote over 30 years ago, do you? That's all people want to hear from him, not his own stuff.

I've got no problem with him playing Maiden songs, but basically his ENTIRE set is Maiden, except for three songs maybe.

Right! And what did Bruce play during his solo runs? Pretty much only the Prisoner.

Part of me still wants that dream hypothetical farewell concert where Bruce is joined on stage for the last song by Blaze and Paul and they do a trio of Iron Maiden. But that'll never happen. I dunno, maybe Maiden should take Blaze with them as support and he can come out and do like a single song on their set. It'd be a nice gesture anyway.

As far as the video goes, it is interesting, and to be fair it's not like he's Al Atkins trying to ride the coattails of Judas Priest, Paul was with Maiden for a good while. I'd be happier if he'd play only the songs that he had part in writing, though.

The problem with the 3 vocalist thing is that, imo, Bruce sings both Paul's and Blaze's material better than either of them.

You're right.

Though there are some things I like about Blaze's voice, which is so rich. Plus, I've never heard Bruce do Purgatory, but I don't think it'd work as well, but that's like the only song I can think of.

To me, Bruce should stick to his own work with the band. I only prefer Blaze to his own Maiden material, as well as Paul to his. But that's just my opinion. I never thought too highly of Bruce covering the first two albums or the Blaze albums. He comes up short when he is performing songs such as Wrathchild, or Lord of the Flies, and doesn't seem to have that certain edge that Paul or Blaze had when they performed their own material with Maiden. For me it's like Blaze covering Bruce material, or Paul covering Blaze's work with Maiden, it just wouldn't sound right.

Here is a video of Bruce performing Purgatory with Maiden. It was his first gig with the band:

Thank you for that. That's cool, but I have to admit, I stand by Paul on this song.

Though I do actually like some of Bruce's versions of Paul era stuff.

I prefer Paul in this song too, as well as all of his Maiden songs, as you would see in my previous post, but Bruce pulls of that beginning wail pretty damn well!

I think Bruce's version of Wrathchild on "Beast Over Hammersmith" is absolutely brutal, and his voice is more angry and gravelly than even Paul's.

I do find it interesting that Paul has been less successful than Blaze, when I (and I think most people) would consider him a much better singer than Blaze.

Blaze can sing. I think the issue was always for people that Blaze didn't sound like Maiden. Obviously since Paul came before Bruce and was the first one recorded he's always going to sound like Maiden.

As for me, I like all three of them, Bruce in the lead, and Paul and Blaze not too far behind.

I wasn't saying Blaze didn't sound like Maiden. Of course Blaze sounds like Maiden, he was in Maiden. I'm saying DiAnno was just a better singer. DiAnno had a bigger range and a very unique voice. Blaze just sounds plain and monotone. Plus, Blaze always seemed to be in the wrong key or something when singing Bruce songs live.

I'm not making fun of Blaze or anything, I'm just amazed how he managed to become more successful than DiAnno outside Maiden.

I don't think Paul is a better singer. I think he is a different singer. Blaze has his own range, yes. But the songs in his range are better. Also, Paul hasn't put out songs of the quality Blaze has since leaving Iron Maiden. No Silicon Messiahs.
