That's what I heard.
Maiden formed in the mid-70's, as you know. Practically all of the material that would appear on Maiden's first two albums was written (& was being performed live) in the late 70's. The first demo, as you say, was recorded in 1978/79. I'm just saying this does not necessarily make them (although one might expect it to) a 70's band.Maiden didn't have an official release until 1980(besides one demo in late 1979) and didn't even solidify their lineup until the 80's either.
Why do you need to lump them into their respetive time periods? To me, Guns N' Roses are a band of the early 90's.I understand what you're saying, but that doesn't exclude them from being lumped into movements in their respective time periods.
Nirvana: 1987 - 1994. Grunge started in the mid-1980's; just because it became commercially successfull in the early 90's, does not make it necessarily of the 90's.Nirvana formed in '87 and a vast majority of their music was released in the 90's
I'm not really thinking about whether bands are still active or not.Just because they are still active and releasing music doesn't really excuse that.
Why do you need to lump them into their respetive time periods? To me, Guns N' Roses are a band of the early 90's.
I'm just saying, if one was forced into pigeon-holing Guns N' Roses into a particular "era" --I'd personally label them 90's before 80's.Re-read this and tell me what's wrong with this.
I'm trying to figure out if being an "80s band" is supposed to be a bad thing.Which brings me back to my question - what is an 80s band?
I'd agree. You see, GNR to me represents both the late eighties and the early nineties.
Indeed, it's an arbitary line to draw. You can't always mark 'eras' with years or decades.
Indeed, I cannot. The 'jungle' Axl Rose described in 1987 is the same town of the race riots in 1992. You can't tell me these five years are parts of entirely different eras.
I just didn't think this made much sense.GnR has Appetite For Destruction, nothing else, and should've died along with the 80s.
I basically agree with you Perun.
That thing tastes like poison to me. Not that I ever tasted poison.
Perhaps he's saying that you can taste poison in black coffee but you can't taste black coffee in poison. So what you're saying is that coffee tastes like poison, but you have no evidence that poison tastes like coffee?
