What do you reckon the last thing we need from Maiden next year is...

Many of us are collectors.

In a way, we're all collectors.....but I think we'd all rather collect something with a little more 'original' value than the proposed compilation.  Bottom line is that it's an unimaginitive release and what we really want is another new studio album.....but that won't be along for another year or two.  I think there's an air of collective disappointment around this issue.......but the new compilation will sell enough to make money........meanwhile we all await that happy day when the next studio album hits the stores.

This pisses me off because it would be just as easy to release a compilation of lesser known songs.  They have all the songs to work with.

I think they should have stuck to songs from Powerslave, SIT, and SSOSS if they were going to do this, or if they really wanted to release a best of the 80's, they should have made it a double disc set.  Or better yet, a giant box-set shaped like a pyramid with 13 discs!  :ok:

Here is my idea:  Call it Deja Vu  and release all the Paul and Blaze era songs re-recorded with three guitars and Bruce singing!!  Now I would buy the hell out of that!

Hey Jon. How's Matt doing? When can we expect Framing Armageddon 2.0?

Ouch, what an insult to Paul and Blaze. Thats worse than random Blaze-bashing that is!

I don't think of it that way.  I'd see it more as a "tribute" to those old times.  With Iced Earth it's a different situation.  They do that each time they get a new singer.

I don't think it's insulting or Blaze-bashing.  Maiden has never badmouthed about their old singers much, whereas Iced Earth is not as innocent... <_<

And I'd certainly buy it, with no disrespect intended for Blaze.  I like The X Factor and respect Blaze, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't be interested in hearing Blaze's songs sung by Bruce.  Sign of the Cross, The Clansman, Futureal, and Lord of the Flies have been great when sung by Bruce live, though I know some people will disagree with me on this matter.

I think it'd be more than a bit insulting to re-record Paul and Blaze's stuff. And we already know Bruce isn't suited to singing Blaze songs.

I have to completely disagree, they couldnt insult them anyway more than this. Whether Bruce does the songs justice is a matter of opinion, but thats not the point, the point is thats its pratically saying to people "we dont think that we recorded it that great with our old singers, we're possibly even ashamed of those singers, so we'll re-record them to make people take interest again".

It will never happen because the band is a bit more respectful to Blaze and Paul and I doubt Bruce would want to get involved with it.

The chance to hear new lineups perform old songs on record is called a Live Album.

It already happened. Prowler, Charlotte the Harlot, Wrathchild... just a few more oldies wouldn't hurt. I love Bruce doing the Blaze tracks live. In studio it can't sound much worse. I'd love the whole band to re-record some (obscure) Paul and Blaze songs. Maiden wouldn't be the first band to do something like that. It would be way more interesting than the compilation shite they have released over the last 10 years.

I have nothing against doing them live, thats not the point though. We were referring to them re-recording them in the studio, well at least I assumed that was what was being implyed, because obviously, they've already played the older songs several times live with different singers.

I would like to see them select one or two and use them as B-sides, a la Prowler 88 etc., but the whole lot? or even an albums worth? That would be too much, in my opinion.

I'd be pretty pissed off if Maiden did this for more than a b-side or two.  Honestly, it'd be like going back and saying, "Hey!  This Blaze/Paul thing was a mistake...here's Bruce and here's the way it should be!"  I think the band has a lot more integrity than that.  Some bands have sure done it but I don't think it makes it right.  Just like Maiden lets Blaze and Paul play songs they were on Maiden tracks for, Maiden has Bruce sing those songs live...but not on an album, because they were at the time written for the person singing them, not for someone different.

Plus, Bruce butchers most Blaze tracks (Futureal, Lord of the Flies, Sign of the Cross) and I'm not too chuffed about his performance on tunes like Murders in the Rue Morgue or Remember Tomorrow.

I have to agree.  Wouldn't bother me too much.  Paul and Blaze's versions are still there to be enjoyed.

Me too. Not feeling/thinking that Bruce "butchers" some songs, helps a lot, to be honest.

A few tracks chosen from several albums (not only Blaze and Paul albums but also Bruce albums) would be a grand idea.

I've mentioned this before (somewhere), but I'd really like to see the band bring Paul and Blaze along on their farewell tour (god forbid!), to each do some of their respective songs.

I'd buy an album featuring Di'anno singing a selection of Maiden classics in his new-found rap style. No wait, I wouldn't.
