WED's Top 25

Where Eagles Dare

Keep Your Distance! Walk Away!
Being new to the site and seeing everyone doing this I decided to put my top 25. Right now I'm not going to put reasons but plan to in coming days. This is subject to change lol. But here you go!

25. Paschendale

Being 25 it just made the cut and it's the only DOD song on my list. Honestly I really like this songs beginning (probably the reason it made the top 25.) The music to me is good, but not great. I think the lyrics are just put together so perfectly that I feel like I am in WWI. Bruce's voice honestly fits this song perfectly and really allows you to feel the sadness and chaos that was going on at the time.

24. Running Free

Running Free to will never be considered one of the greatest metal song ever but to me its just a great song to drive down the street and head bang to. Honestly the lyrics are mediocre at best and I don't like Paul Dianno all that much. My dad's a huge Dianno fan and really got me into this song. After there most recent tour in which I had to fly from Massachusetts to Florida and they closed with this song its now one of my favorites.

23.  Aces High

Aces High is just one of those songs that can pump you up even in your darkest moments. I do prefer when it has the Churchill Speech. The beginning moments of this song seem to give you a sense of serenity and then with a mixture of guitar, bass and drums give you a sense of urgency. Then the "air raid siren" Bruce Dickinson tells you of the appending danger. There is no time to waste you must get down the runway before its to late. This song pushes Bruce's vocals to the limits andhe nails it perfectly. Then the chorus is extremely catchy with a mixture of world play and the echo of each line RUNNING... Running... running SCRAMBLING... Scrambling... scrambling FLYING... Flying... flying. Also the historical aspect of this song truly interests me as well as the dogfight "lingo" used. Honestly when I first heard this song and truly understood the lyrics I started telling people when I graduate High School I would join the Air Force!

22. Blood Brothers

This is one of the realativley slow Maiden songs I really enjoy. Now to be completely honest I do enjoy the Rock in Rio version a lot more because I feel there is so much more passion from Bruce. So if it makes any sense the song that is #22 on my list is from Rock in Rio rather then the Brave New World Album. Watching the entire crowd of 250,000 people as the song begins just about silent other then the "in tune" clapping as though this is the anthem for there country. Then when Bruce's ask what are we the entire stadium erupts with Where Blood Brothers. Even though this song has deeper meanings about Steve Harris's I feel like it has enough power in the lyrics and in the music to bring waring countries together. I don't really know what to say about this song other then it just hits deep just about every time I listen to it.

21. Caught Somewhere In Time

The guitar work from Caught Somewhere In Time seems to me like it comes from the year 2068. I feel like it belongs in some alien invasion movie. Both Adrian and Murray have absolutely amazing solo's. When synthesizers were created they most defiantly had this song in mind and Maiden knew what they were doing when they created a time based album.  In my opinion the Somewhere back In Time tour should have opened with this rather then Aces High and I'm very disappointed they didn't play it at all. Bruce performs astoundingly (as always) and though I've never done to much research into this song it gives the idea its about the Devil trying to bring some one to hell and Bruce is taking the part of the Devil. He defiantly gives off the evil but yet convincing tone to his voice. Lines such as your safe with me, safe as any soul can be really hook me into this song.

20.  Die With Your Boots On

Probably one of the best lessons any one can teach you. If your gonna die, die with your boots on. I have to say this is the truth in everyday life and not just if your going to die. I would have to guess at the underlying meaning (or I'm just hoping) being never give up and don't complain. I love hearing the whole band in this song which I think just adds to the epicness of the whole thing. At some parts near the end Bruce is going so fast its tuff to make out the words and I honestly like that a lot. The solo honestly blows me away as being one of my Maiden favorites.

19. The Clairvoyant

18. Satellite 15… The Final Frontier

17. The Talisman

16. Seventh Son Of a Seventh Son

15.  Still Life

14. Sign Of The Cross

13. The Wicker Man

12.  To Tame a Land

11. Flight Of Icarus

10. Alexander The Great

9.  Heaven Can Wait

8.  Starblind

7. Iron Maiden

6. Rime of The Ancient Mariner

5. Powerslave

4. The Number of The Beast

3. The Prisoner

2. Moonchild

1. Hallowed Be Thy Name

Man, that means nothing if you don't give us reasonings. It is the whole point of those threads.

Also, Iron Maiden at 7 ? :o

I plan to.... I will give the reasons, top priority!!

And Iron Maiden at 7, it just has a lot of meaning for me because the first album I listened to was Ed Hunter and that was the first song.

Any Way Here are the first 3...

Oh, sorry didn't see the planning part on your post  ;)

Paschendale should be higher in my opinion. Solos are also pure magic.
Running Free ? Interesting choice, wouldn't made my Top 100. Too basic for me.
Aces High is a very good song, not so high on my list but this place is no surprise for general.

Keep them coming !

I defiantly agree with Running Free as not being a great song, but like I said it just a great song to just head bang and sing along with and has a lot of sentimental value to me.

Finally! A Maiden fan who loves the song Iron Maiden as much as Steve Harris does.

Lots of interesting stuff in here, and good to see the Prisoner so high (and Clairvoyant in the top 25). Also agree that Churchill's Speech makes Aces High. Crazy that S15...TFF is on there, but variety, she is the spice of life, no?

few people love it that much =p

i put some songs up in my list based on enjoyability factor above any sort of musical decency. recently hooks in you, running free and iron maiden are also yet to appear.

Sorry about the quality of these three guys... I was kind of in a rush but like I said this is a top priority for me.

I don't like DWYBO that much, but the other two are great and fairly similiar to mine! BB is #12 or so, CSIT is in the low twenties :)
