Zohran is running for mayor. There is absolutely ZERO legitimate reason why he should be asked about Hamas. It's deeply disingenuous and bad faith behavior. We all know the only reason that is happening is because he's a popular left-wing muslim politician with great chances at winning. I'm simply happy that the disgusting smeers against him are not working.

I also find it kinda funny (or rather tiring and boring) how we have people constantly going "I'm not racist, I swear, but immigration is out of control!" and "the left is too soft on crime, criminals need to be punished!" and then when Mamdani says that he would comply with international law and do his literal job of arresting a war criminal who has a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court suddenly we're supposed to ignore the law? We're supposed to be soft on a fucking war criminal?

I'm sorry, but you can't have it both ways. That'd be pure hypocrisy. I'm rooting for the guy and can't wait for him to hopefully win.

If, in the interview posted above, he had said something along the lines of “If representatives of hamas came to New York, I would arrest them” (or something similar), I wouldn’t have posted what I did. Treat them both—Netanyahu and hamas—the same way. But when he tries to avoid giving a direct answer regarding hamas, it’s very bad, in my opinion. That creates uncertainty and leaves room for interpretation. Be frank and upfront—that’s how I see it.
Of course, he’s running for New York mayor. But he said things about Netanyahu—so why not say the same about hamas? Unless, of course, he treats them completely differently…

Also, in my post I said that I have no problem with his opinion on Netanyahu. But I definitely have a problem when he remains silent about hamas.

And he is silent about Xi Jinping. And about the corruption and dictatorship in Cameroon. But he isn't silent on Donald Trump. I definitely have a problem with this.

We can do this over just about any issue not related to the position of being Mayor in New York. It is a smear campaign, which several of us have pointed out without any kind of response from you. I take the silence as you acknowledging the validity while willingly falling for it and perpetuating the propaganda.

The question wasn’t about Xi or Cameroon. And he couldn’t answer it directly. That’s a weak argument on your part. New Yorkers will surely decide whom to vote for—no problem there. I just posted my opinion, that’s all.

I used one of your favorite argument tactics, "whataboutism", so what's good for the goose is good for the gander, right? No, the core argument the rest of us have made is that this is a concentrated propaganda effort and smear campaign by Fox News that is not relevant to him seeking the office of Mayor. It is in line with them painting him as a communist muslim and is at the very core open racism. They go with this because of his ethnical background. The argument is that you are running with it, kind of like when you go "look over there!" and your toddler curiously looks while you pocket whatever toy you want the toddler to forget about. That is what Fox News is trying to do and you are falling for it and helping propogate the narrative.

I apologize if I come off as frustrated, but that's because I am.

Look, I think Hamas are a terrible bunch. But you have to view this Fox ambush in context, rather than eat their spin.

Okay, I get it. I can understand that there’s a smear campaign against him. I’m not a Fox News watcher, and I’m not part of the inner pot of U.S. sociopolitical interactions.

But my point remains completely valid. I reacted to his answer not as a U.S. citizen and not as someone racist (against Muslims), but simply because I genuinely find his avoidance of a direct answer about hamas appalling—especially since he had already voiced his opinion on Netanyahu. He spoke about A (Netanyahu) but chose to stay silent about B (hamas). And I’m not sorry that, in this case, my opinion happens to fall into the Fox News smear campaign narrative. Mamdani’s very refusal to give a direct answer is what gave that alleged smear campaign fuel in the first place.

And again, my motives lie outside of that alleged smear campaign. I was expressing my opinion about avoiding a direct answer on a very sensitive topic. Personally, I don’t like it. He’s a politician, not a private person.
 
No matter what his answer was, Fox was going to make it into a viral sound bite and spin it into a narrative against him. Thats the entire purpose of the question. Pure propaganda.

Zohran has talked time and time again about how he would do anything in his power to ensure Israelis, Jews and Palestinians living in New York could live safe and peaceful lives.

Hamas is absolutely irrelevant. The only reason to ask him about Hamas is racism. That's it.

Netenyahu on the other hand is the leader of Israel, he visits other countries and he oversees a literal genocide campaign. Fuck Hamas, but to claim they are on the same level of importance, influence and support is beyond delusional.

It's time to quit swallowing propaganda at every corner and spewing it here uncritically. You have the power of the internet on your fingertips, time to educate yourself a bit.

Uh, no. With this you simply show us that you have no knowledge of this situation whatsoever, nothing beyond ragebait videos on twitter have shown you. Educate yourself. Mamdani has acknowledged everything that's relevant to his position time and time again.

You are activel saying "yes, it's propaganda, but I agree with it, so I won't change my opinion even if the facts are against me". Not a good look.
 
They have used this tactic at home in Ireland too. They ask nationalist politicians to denounce IRA crimes of the past, the politicians can not do this and so that becomes the whole story. They use it as a way of suppressing the nationalist voice, they waste all their air time wrapped up in the crimes of the past and whataboutery.

Angry at the tactic of writing people off as IRA sympathisers. This got regurgitated versus Corbyn in recent years because he was an early proponent of actually speaking to Sinn Fein (as well as Hamas). Sinn Fein are now a mainstream party, but the way people were acting was like all of them are currently criminals.

Part of my family are Catholics of Irish descent and have always been well aware that showing sympathy to anyone of a vaguely nationalist leaning will get you dubbed a terrorist sympathiser. Horrible attitude.

Huh, turns out it was never about the hostages. How surprising. Utterly shocking. Not at all in line with the last 80 years of history, no one could've forseen this.

There have even been reports about Palestinian corpses being mutilated and their organs robbed by the IDF. That's in addition to the targeted shooting of genitals of literal children waiting for food done by IDF snipers that we got months ago. None of this is in any way defensible, but the IDF keeps finding ways to beat their previous monstrous and evil actions.
