USA Politics

Yup... it's as simple as that it seems. No matter if you like the dude or not... but taking in account his behavior as president his current attitude is kinda obvious at the end of the day. And now I truly understand the dimension of fanaticism on some of their electorate, by seeing his hard core supporter's reaction. It seems like we're in a fuckin' lame sci fi movie... the world being plagued by a virus while a guy that seems to take bath on Cheetos at a daily basis that somehow got previously elected as the commander in chief of the world's biggest super power, loses the elections tries to hold with all his strength to his position recurring to mobs of raging rednecks and pulpit stealing morons. You name the movie.

We got fat and lazy. We became civically disengaged. We got so deep into navel-gazing that we lost all perspective as a country, and people were able to come in with a stream of shallow, obvious lies, and nearly half the country went along with them because what felt true to them was more important than what was actually true.

God, I hope this is a wake-up call for most of the pod people. Or at least most of their elected representatives.

Anyone who continues to support Trump or his attempts to obstruct the election outcome after this is, without hyperbole, a traitor.

Are you guys seeing the rumors about Pence invoking the 25th amendment?
As much as Pence scares me I think it might be the best solution since Trump apparently lost what's left his little good sen... ah! Forget this part: Trump never had it. It's the best solution IMO though. What could go wrong with less than 2 weeks with Pence as President except earth being devoured by three headed demons? Regular daily stuff, dudes...

That would be great, but I doubt it’ll happen. There were also early reports that the storming of the Capitol pissed off House Republicans so much that impeachment might even be back on the table, but I doubt that too.

Today’s events will be the final straw for some Republicans, but not enough of them. And the ones who don’t become born-again patriots after today need to be aggressively ejected from office at the earliest opportunity.

So here’s the thing with impeachment/25th amendment. Trump only has a few weeks in his term left and the government isn’t going to have any meaningful activities during that time. President Pence isn’t going to suddenly start governing or try to pass a bunch of legislation on his way out. But it is important for a few reasons. For one thing, Trump is acting dangerous. They also need to make a clear statement that this behavior is unacceptable.

More importantly though, if GOP wants to control of the party back, they need to create a permission structure for “regular” Republicans to reject Trump and Trumpism. This is a good opportunity for that.

So did he do it? Are they referring to him as mr. President because he invoked it or because he's the president of the congress? Also, Dems win GA,

Looks like Kelly Loeffler discovered some class on her way out the door, at least. She withdrew her objection to the election results.

Also, Schumer’s opening remarks when they restarted the session were some of the best I’ve ever heard from him.

@Zare can chime in as a fellow Balkaner :p

Yes but the armed storm is another thing IMHO. Although USA has not experienced what Yu has, I would not underestimate this situation. The last instance they had was over 20 years ago, in the 90s, when a solo maniac killed one or two guards in WH. He's a psycho and that was the end of it.

In the 21st century there were touchy situations in Croatia but they were mainly instigated from an old-school ruling party that just went down and was trying to obstruct the government of yesterday's opposition. Yes we had sporadically armed veteran protestors camping in front of some ministry for months or even years, I don't even recall, but they were placed by the "Reps" so they can obstruct the "Dems" who always have a weaker coalition going on. Violence against staff or institutions was never, under any circumstances, in the picture. Just obstruction, "people trying to enter people's institutions" bullshit etc.

Feels like a 911 moment, where the dust has settle and everyone is coming together

I hope you are right, but I am skeptical to say the least. The opportunity is certainly there. Today was really sad. As I said before, the only acceptable response is to remove Trump now. 25th amendment, impeachment, whatever it takes.

Doubt it. Once Biden's certified over 270 the same brand of nuts from today are going to be even more emboldened. Hell, even the congressmen that are the most ardent Trump supporters won't suddenly back down. Trump as a public/political figure's not going anywhere after January 20th and he's going to try throwing his weight behind those who did support him through this.
