8. To Tame a Land
Maiden has made me read many books, just because of their vast array of sources that they use and this one is no exception. Based upon Dune, this song got me to read that book. Anyway, this song has such a beautiful intro, and the way the song just flows for the first minute or so.  I know many people are bothered by these lyrics, but I don't mind them at all considering the subject material and Bruce makes them sound badass anyway. Of course the lyrics aren't the strongest point of the song but the riffs during the vocals are really great and really help drive the song. Steve plays some of his best bass through the entire song, no wonder why many people here consider the bass more important than the guitars for Maiden's sound. The song slowly builds and builds until the point where Bruce finally lets out 1 last note which leads to that stupendous instrumental section. I think this is easily one of Maiden's best instrumental section ever (and that's saying something), with a plethora of great riffs and harmonies, with the best one being the post solo riff. The solos are extremely good and the way the song just slowly recedes back to the intro riff is just fantastic.

People always trip out on the "Pranced" line in Dance of Death.  This has never bothered me at all.  The Character is in a trance, and is obviously in a place mentally and physically that are way, way out of the norm for him.  The dance/prance line appears in a description of actions while in a dream like state spent with unworldly figures and perhaps the  living dead. Creatures that  were stalking our character and were possibly wooing him in attempt to abduct him and his soul.  The entire song is fantasy and the light spirited lyric really fits well in the text of the song.  Dance of death is definitely a top 10 song and a top 5 album.
    Outstanding list.

7. Stranger in a Strange Land
One of the biggest improvers over the past 12 months, it wouldn't have even been in my top 50 this time last year. The subject material is very interesting, with the song being based upon an explorer being frozen and then being found 100 years later. The song itself is one of Maiden's very few songs that fades out and I think the song benefits from it. Yes, you don't get to hear all of the end solo but it represents the explorer finally dying at the hands of the snow and ice. The main riff is somewhat disorientating but that just adds to the song as it really feels like the explorer getting lost. The pre-chorus section played between the 2nd verse and 2nd chorus is great, and really changes up the song from what could have simply been a verse-chorus-verse-chorus structure. You expected it to go back to the chorus at that point but the pre-chorus really changes it up. Of course, the best part of the song is that mindblowing instrumental section. It could very well be Maiden's best solo (although it isn't even my favourite Maiden solo) and proves that not all metal solos have to be fast to be brilliant.

6. Sign of the Cross
Another big improver over the past 6 months, although not as much as the previous song. This would be the 3rd Blaze song that I heard (behind Futureal and Virus). This song starts with a haunting intro and is very melodic for at least the first couple of minutes. The song really is a riff feast, with a large number of great riffs featuring throughout the song, especially surrounding the solos. I know some people on here consider that this is the first album where Janick and Dave really sounded great together and I have to agree. The guitars on the previous 2 albums were quite lacklustre overall and things seemed to be much better on this album.  The solos are great and definitely within the better faster solos that Maiden have done. The lyrics are great but I can picture Bruce singing this song unlike a lot of other Blaze era songs, mainly because it's on Rock in Rio.

Yeah, I was going to finish it sometime last week, but then I forgot and now I'll be busy for the next couple of weeks. But I will get it done after that, I'll make sure of it.

You obviously don't need to, we already know how it ends:

#5 Hooks in you
#4 Invaders
#3 Quest for fire
#2 More Tea Vicar
#1 Churchills Speech.

I'm right... right?

right?

(serious note, finish it :P I like seeing the diversity of tastes unfold :))

Top 5 Steve Harris basslines, maybe. But Top 5 Maiden songs ? Hell no.
