Love The Alchemist, it's Jan in a nutshell. The Drifter is little aimless for me (love the bass though!)
Prisoner is awesome, it just fails to match BNW.

EDIT: Jan deserves more love.

Trying to remove as much "song or guitarist bias" as possible… It’s still Janick. That solo is just fiery. :shred:His guru Ritchie would be proud. That end of the first part at 0:13-0:15 is just funny! :D

Dave’s from BNW is very close behind, though it could be because I can’t “unhear” the harmony part right after. But… no, I don’t think so, that's not the reason. It’s pure Dave.

So #118 and #82 for me.

The Prisoner solo still sends shivers down my spine like it did when I was a freshman in HS (hint: no internet and vinyl was the media of choice)and discovered Maiden I'm an old man now so anything that has that effect on me that is legal gets my vote! :edmetal:

By far the best here is from the Alchemist. Second is the Prisoner solo.

(My first time participating in this tournament, but I'm looking forward to seeing what happens with it!)

Different World and Rime. The Starblind solo is cool, but I don't think that highly of the solo isolated. The FOTD solo is good, but not among my favourite Dave solos. In Rime, the solos are the highlight of the song (along with the part that leads up to them). Different World is a pretty ordinary song by Maiden standards, but the solo is among my favourites on AMOLAD.

I wonder if FOTD is my favourite Dave solo... I love it, anyway. Excellent tone and note choices. (Those two back-to-back solos in FOTD may actually be the best in their whole catalogue). The second vote goes to Adrian's Different World solo. I think that one is one of his best. Simple harmonic backdrop, no weird riff or time signature - just a simple chord sequence; but a nicely executed solo with a buildup that contains a little bit of everything. Textbook-example, really. (I like that it's up front and clear in the mix too.)

I like the solo from Mariner live, but the record I want to shut off. Don't like the production, the tone or the playing (too shaky/unclean for that tone to carry it through). The Starblind solo is a nice part of the song, but it's just playing to fill out some space - nothing that catches my attention. A guitar solo for me should be as urgent as the vocal part of a chorus/or be like a complete song in itself with tension & release - this clearly isn't. It's more an interlude than a solo.

Extremely nice group here.
Different World - one of Adrian's best solos, don't remember what rank exactly I gave it but it's somewhere in his top 10.
Starblind - enjoyable solo, potential winner in a weaker group but gets too much contest here.
Rime - very cool H stuff going on, the best version of this is on Flight 666. His live rendition of it is something epic.
Fear of the Dark - always loved Dave on here. It's not a long one, but the fast legato and sweeping going on here is top notch.

Votes go to Different World and Fear of the Dark.

I agree that both solos in FOTD are fantastic, but Dave's is possibly his best ever(aside from maybe CSIT). It perfectly toes the line between fast and melodic with great emotion that vibes with the theme of the song. The last few bars in particular flow perfectly into the melody that follows, with a rare use of sweep picking by Dave that perfectly resolves the solo section. My second choice is Different World, which is a great H solo. I love the little tapping section especially.
The other two are good solos, but not as memorable.

Different World and FOTD. The Starblind solo is not particularly special, and ROTAM cannot compete with the other two. As NP said, the FOTD solo is better on RiR, but the studio version is still excellent.

The Starblind solo is quite underrated here. It might not have the flair of most H solos but it's one of the most dramatic solos he's ever done.

These are pretty much my exact thoughts. Different World and Rime are getting the vote.

About FOTD, I think the key modulates from D minor (Janick's solo) to F# minor for Dave's solo, which gives it a certain kind of dramatic impact. That of course isn't obvious here in the video, but it's part of what makes it stand out so much in the song.
