Both in the first pair were good but Paul's was really surprising. Dokken from the second one, the AC/DC instrumental is just pointless in my opinion.

Found #9 interesting for the first two minutes, then enough already. Found #10 dull. So, 9 wins.

Agree with Saap that #11 seemed kind of pointless. But so did #12. AC/DC wins because it is shorter.

None of these had anything approaching a memorable melody.

Ye it does go on a little too long sadly, but I do like it :) He does a lot of really short classically type stuff, and a lot of fast more shreddy things, I chose Echo Song because it stood out more than anything.

All four of these show the problem that plagues too many instrumentals: A cool theme that ultimately goes nowhere.
Mr.Scary is the best of the bunch.

@mckindog

Why did you suggest that AC DC song if you think it is plagued by a cool theme that ultimately goes nowhere?
:grumble:

If you have some more, let me know if they can be replaced. I am aware of other candidates people have requested in the game.

If any replacements can be made, I'd like to replace three of my 44 suggestions with When the Water Breaks, Universal Mind and Acid Rain by Liquid Tension Experiment. I'm extremely bummed out about forgetting these, as I mentioned in the suggestions thread.

Hmm, when I addressed mckindog, I especially meant songs that he himself doesn't find that nice, to replace by songs from someone else who really like their own suggestions a lot.

I hadn't thought of the idea to replace own songs.

To be honest, when I made that post I didn't realize that replacing songs can have several consequences. In my preparations for the game I tried to spread certain artists (not too many of the same after each other) and songs (according to my estimation of their possible popularity; I tried to spread the ones which may have the biggest chance to get further, as in seeds in tournaments such as Wimbledon).

Here's something else:
I can imagine that this is a lot of work for Night Prowler to make all these changes in the playlist. So even if I would agree with replacing some songs, then I hope it's OK for you that Night Prowler doesn't need to do all this work if he doesn't want to. So, if we would do it, that would mean a possible change in the game but not per se in the playlist.

Stardust and Flash, I'll give it a thought.

If I do this: Flash, do you have specific songs (from the 33 that went in the game, not 44) in mind to replace, or could I do some suggestions? E.g. we could replace songs by these artists: Weather Report (3 left), Miles Davis (2 left), Frank Zappa (2 left), King Crimson (2 left)?

I don't dislike Chase the Ace. I was just making a general observation.
It's like I think Caught Somewhere in Time is repetitive, but I still think it is a good Maiden song and a great song in general.

I don't think you should be switching up the game. We have plenty of songs and a huge variety of music already. Just let it happen.

I don't see how replacing three songs with other three suggestions by the same person has any effect on the amount of songs and the variation of music. Game might be handled strictly and that's fine, but it has nothing to do with variation. That'd be a logical explanation if the idea here was broadening the game (e.g. making the song count higher).

Found #10 dull.

I can understand that one votes for a song because he likes it better than the other (best reason there is!) and of course tastes and interpretation differ....
But some of these comments felt so inappropriate to me (or sounded unaware of some of the qualities that I am hearing) that I just wanted to say more in favour of the song that I brought forward.

In #10 I hear a profound melody that is very memorable. I don't find the song dull because there are a few changes and it's not too long. The playing is subtle and the echoing chords in the pauses are well thought of (as if a someone takes a break with doubt in his mind before he continues with their life or travel). There is a strong haunting mood which I find impossible to deny. In the end there's a twist that leaves you with an uncomfortable and mysterious feeling, which IMO portrays an atmosphere that reflects the title. Short, calm, but at the same time powerful.
