Well, guys, I think it's cool to list your personal Top 5 favorite bands ! :)

My list goes like this:

1. Iron Maiden
2. Judas Priest
3. Kiss
4. Krokus
5. HammerFall

And yours ?

Last edited:
1. Iron Maiden
2. Deep Purple & co (Rainbow, Whitesnake mostly)
3. AC DC
4. Queen
5. Helloween

PS That's hard!

This is not set in stone, but right now I'll go with:

1. Iron Maiden
2. Dream Theater
3. Symphony X
4. Pearl Jam
5. Rush

I've stopped ranking bands in Top 10s but have a collective Top 8 instead. These include non-rock / metal acts.

They are:

Iron Maiden
Death
ABBA
Sabaton
Buckethead
Ahab
Alestorm
Bruce Dickinson

I really can't narrow this down any further.

1. Iron Maiden
2. Lagwagon
3. NOFX
4. Metallica
5. Any music I like whether it be rock metal rap or pop

At the moment I can only safely determine my Top 4.

1. Iron Maiden
2. Iced Earth
3. Opeth
4. Amorphis

Many other bands dropped off due to shitty live performances & setlists, shitty recent albums, lineup changes etc.

Scorpions
Maiden
Guns N Roses/Slash
Alter Bridge
Dio/Dio Era Sabbath+Rainbow

AC/DC, Halestorm, Queensryche and Zeppelin are also high contenders

1.) Dio/Rainbow/Black Sabbath with Dio/Heaven and Hell
2.) Black Sabbath
3.) Iron Maiden
4.) Judas Priest
5.) Megadeth

Hard Rock Band:

1.) Deep Purple
2.) Led Zeppelin
3.) Van Halen
4.) Jimi Hendrix
5.) Guns N Roses

1. Alter Bridge
2. Iron Maiden
3. Pearl Jam
4. Sabaton

Number 5 changes over time, so I can't really say.

Maiden
Thin Lizzy
Judas Priest

not sure who the rest of the top 5 would be but Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Megadeth, Slayer and WASP would be some of the main contenders

Then: Metallica, Stratovarius, GNR and Megadeth

Now: Pain of salvation, Ayreon, Edguy, King’s X

Iron maiden goes for both

1.) Dio/Rainbow/Black Sabbath with Dio/Heaven and Hell
2.) Black Sabbath
3.) Iron Maiden
4.) Judas Priest
5.) Megadeth

Hard Rock Band:

1.) Deep Purple
2.) Led Zeppelin
3.) Van Halen
4.) Jimi Hendrix
5.) Guns N Roses

Van Halen is heavy metal with DLR, they became a poppy hard rock band with Sammy Hagar.

Traditionally I've always considered my top 5 bands to be:

1. Iron Maiden
2. Blind Guardian
3. Dream Theater
4. Megadeth
5. Testament,

but recently my love for Dream Theater has cooled somewhat due to their less-than-impressive most recent album, 'The Astonishing', so I'm not entirely sure if I would still consider them to be one of my top five bands. My love for Megadeth is also not as strong as it once was as their most recent albums haven't been exactly stellar either and there has been a bit of a degradation in their live performances. In the past few years, since I've been using Spotify, my music taste has expanded quite a bit and I listen to bands who, four years ago, I never thought I'd ever be a fan of such as Delain and Epica. I've also been listening to a lot more Evergrey and Gojira than I had been a few years ago, but would I include any of these bands in my top 5? I'm not sure.

It's really hard to rank bands as I go through phases of listening to some bands more than others. For example, there are certain bands who tour a lot more than other bands so I will listen to the bands who I'm going to see more than the bands who don't tour which creates a sort of unconscious bias towards bands who tour more frequently. I suppose the five bands listed at the top would constitute my "all time" top five but there are several bands just below vying for inclusion and the "current" top 5 is a very fluid thing.

1. Iron Maiden
2. Megadeth
3. Opeth
4. Rush
5. Dream theater

If it was a top ten the following would be:

6. Death
7. Obituary
8. Saxon
9. Judas Priest
10. Carcass
