THE IRON MAIDEN COVERENDUM: Angel Stage (FINAL!)

I liked the sound of Diesel's voice, from what I heard, and I also liked James LaBrie's on the track I just listened to. I was surprised people critisized his voice so much. Maybe I'll listen to it again to really make up my mind.

I´m a singer too but merely on amateur level.
You mentioned the Nirvana song on another thread? I've always dreamed of singing with a band, but it hasn't come true yet. :) But I was fortunate enough to be allowed to sing with a microphone a few years back. That was so sweet. (no audience though)

That was one of the first songs I sang yes, but I made own music too through the years. I´m a baritone btw so don't expect high screams.

Listened to the beginning part of Tame again, and I really like the sound in James LaBrie's voice, and I think he sings well. But it's true he seems to struggle with the high notes, so now I understand that criticism too.

Don´t stop dreaming, maybe you will in future.
Lamia´s Finnish Christmas Songs.
Yeah, that's what I've been thinking! Not the a cappella Christmas Carols, but singing in front of an audience. Now that I'm no longer teaching, I need not worry about my voice so much. Maybe someday some amateur band is looking for a singer... :) not a heavy metal band though, unfortunately my voice is not "big" or ballsy, but rather soft and emotional, better fit for love songs than the types of Where Eagles Dare.

Edit: Forgot to say about Finnish Christmas songs that I can't sing them. They're all so dark and somber that I couldn't do it without crying. I can't listen to them at all without getting very depressed.

Dream Theater - Instrumentally it's OK, but LaBrie is horrible on this cover. Also it's like they recorded his vocals through Skype.

Týr's cover doesn't bring anything new, but they still kind of make the song their own.

Lord Belial's cover is pretty great. Cool vocals and blast beats are a welcome addition.

Mago De Oz copies the vocal parts and everything else seems to be new... which I don't really care for.

Easiest round yet. Non-melodic vocal covers of melodic vocal songs are a sad joke — they just rip out the heart of the song and replace it with phlegm and digestive gurgles. Utterly pointless. I’d honestly rather vote for a rap cover.

The Jorn track is a serviceable cover of a mediocre song, but that’s enough here. Winner: Jorn

“Where Autotune Dares” has decent music and silly fake vocals, but again, that’s enough here. Winner: Fozzy

The only thing of Burden Of Grief's cover of Prowler I didn't like are the vocals. Sorry, @Magnus
Holy cow! Jorn Dio-nized the Final Frontier song! Now this is what I call a perfect cover: Make it like your own without losing the spirit of the original. Great solo's too. My favorite so far!

Dark Tranquility's vocals ruin it all. Sorry, @Night Prowler No, I prefer Fozzy's take on Where Eagles Dare.

The cover of Prowler could be a karaoke track with harsh vocals added. It's fine, but boring and does nothing. Jørn picked a lame song to cover, but I actually prefer his Dio-lite voice to Bruce's on this track. He plays with the melody and adds bluesy warbles that greatly enhance the monotony of the original ("talk to mah family and teh-ee-el-ee-el them!" and the random Dio-improv outro).

Voting the opposite for the second matchup because Fozzy sucks and Dark Tranquility at least add some grit to the song. I don't love it, but it's more interesting than a Chris Jericho cover.

I forgot about Jorn’s TFF cover. Way better than the original.

I quite liked Burden of Grief, then the novelty wore off after a couple of minutes. Very easy to listen to, though. Jorn definitely adds something new. Nice (and heavier) reworking, although I'm sure I didn't like this the first time I heard it.

Fozzy just sound like a bargain basement version of the original. If I'd never heard the original 22 Acacia, Dark Tranquility's version would sound perfectly respectable. The first part loses quite a bit of impact of the original, but the faster vocal passages work really nicely with growled vocals, and I like both Dark Tranquility's vocals and guitar sound anyway, so this is a winner for me.

The first Burden Of Grief cover was better; loved the solo section in Jørn’s cover.

Fozzy was blah; DT were really ripping.

Thanks to all who have been taking part in this so far! We're over halfway through the Drifter Stage already and it's been very interesting listening through the covers you guys submitted. Hopefully you're enjoying it too. Also sorry for some delays in updating; I'm trying my best lol.
