Voting for the metal song in round 1.

Voting for the extreme metal song in round 2.

GNR is better than the Nuge. Neither song should be in this game technically but Slash's guitarwork on "Sweet Child" is some of my favorite from any genre.

I would have consider voting for extreme metal bias if AAF's "Smooth Criminal" wasn't one of my favorite covers. They managed to marry the nu metal sound with a deep love for Michael Jackson's music and as ridiculous as the cover may be it never once does not feel inspired nor fun.

Queensryche, easily.

Voting for the metal song in round 6. No disrespect to Mountain. But also Slayer's riff is better.

I would certainly vote for Stranglehold over Cat Scratch Fever in a heads up play, so I have to agree with you there, but I don't particularly love Nugent's artistic work. I think he's fine.

Nuge is a decent guitarist but it really is all about Stranglehold. And even then that’s not my first, second, or third choice for 70s guitar jams.

I was just thinking, although I have not much to back this up, that his work is kind of an artistic dead end. I don't see much that evolved from it in terms of other artists, he just did his thing and it was decent, and that feels like...it?

Pretty much. His image did a lot of heavy lifting imo. There are so many 70s rock 1 hit wonders and forgotten guitar heroes who also didn’t go anywhere but here we are still talking about Terrible Ted.

He had enough decent songs to set himself apart from the pack but not enough to make him fully stand out as a ‘70s guitar hero. My partner loves “Free for All” and I think it’s fine, but “Stranglehold” is the only one where I’m actually going, “This is a great song.”

First couple of Ted Nugent albums are decent enough, have one of those "classic album series" box set where you get 5 of an artists albums for about the price of a normal album. I remember enjoying the first two and Cat Scratch Fever being ok, but the last two in the collection being shit. When he took over the singing and the lyrics getting even worse it stopped being interesting to me.

Not sure if I'll get round to listening to them all by the close of the poll, but I'll throw up a vote tomorrow anyway, I'm familiar with at least 1of the tracks in all ties bar the second one.

Hand of Doom

The Furthest Shore: there's too much melody per square doom, it doesn't work for me all that well. Atrum Regina then.

GNR

I'm more likely to listen to Smooth Criminal again. I think it could be a decent hip-hop song!

I actually like Masquerade, though the original version is much more charming, and it wouldn't beat Revolution Calling either.

Slayer

Yeah, I’m not that big of a Nuge guy and I never really got the hype either. Somebody I knew once insisted I had to listen to Weekend Warriors. Suppose to be his best album - I heard middle of the road hard rock. Venom Soup off that album is about as good as he got (and coincidentally his darkest and most experimental from what I’ve heard). When I learned that he put out some glam adjacent stuff in the 80’s I went and listened to a hand full of them. I again didn’t hear much of substance.

There’s a category of hard rock listener that is into the music for the guitar work - solos, riffs, feel, etc. and I don’t find myself to be a part of that group. I love good guitar work (I am writing this on an Iron Maiden forum) but there’s guys out there who worship all these classic rock guys. Some of these classic rock guys like Nugent I never really got the hype.

Forgot to mention, Sweet Child O Mine is one of only two songs I skip on Appetite. The other is Mr. Brownstone. I really don’t like those songs. Appetite For Destruction is my truck CD. My trucks CD player will sometimes get stuck when taking discs in and out. It’s an easy fix - just take the fuse out for the stereo system and put it back in. But that’s kind of a pain to do often whenever I want to change a CD. I circumvent this issue by not changing CD’s anymore. I also have an AUX cord but there’s a sort rustic, Americana feel to driving around in a pickup truck listening to Appetite For Destruction on CD.

Hand of Doom, but the Whitesnake track is decent
Neither is my thing but the Dark Funeral track is much more coherent
Sweet Child O' Mine is a good bit better, but I like Cat Scratch Fever, nice bit of swagger in the riff
I like the Alien Ant Farm cover, and the original, but can't vote for a novelty track at this stage, Moonsorrow not really my thing overall but had good parts
Won't have time to get to Symphony X but they usually don't click with me, and Mindcrime is one of my favourite albums so I don't think they'll beat Revolution Calling anyway
Dead Skin Mask FFS Mississippi Queen is grand but c'mon

Whitesnake was damned by Black Sabbath's hand of doom, and Dark Funeral has actually reached the furthest shore. Guns 'N Roses has proven immune to cat scratch fever, which is good, because it probably makes you shit your pants so you get out of the draft. Alien Ant Farm has definitely stolen their match. Queensryche has called for a revolution against Symphony X. And finally, the Mississippi queen's dead skin mask was exposed by Slayer.
