The Final Frontier charts' thread

I noticed that the wiki article shows a "--" under Japan, meaning that the CD has not been released there, yet.  Must be coming later.

This is great news, indeed.  The band is taking it, one album at a time, but I hope this success urges them to release another one, in a few years of course.

Onhell that last list includes Canada this time.

Still Maiden decided to play Belgium, and not Holland, not France, not Switzerland, not Portugal, not the Czech Republic and not Croatia, all countries where the album did better.

Ah, well the Belgium gig was a bit "in between" some of these countries, and the tour was planned way before these results were known. Still, I thought it was kind of weird to see these differences. Belgium is known for their more enthusiastic crowds, at least more enthusiastic than Holland when it comes to metal gigs.

Maiden is still trying but I wouldn't be surprised if the focus in 2011 will be more in Europe and others zones, than in the US. I hope for the loyal US fans I'm wrong but I wouldn't hope too much yet.

Exactly! visiting a country does not always guarantee album sales. Fans are fans and they will buy your cd because they like the bands work, regardless of concert. I have NEVER been to a Symphony X or Dream Theater concert, but I own most of their CDs...

And I'm pretty sure they don't play Maiden on the radio in Canada or Europe either.
Maiden got a fair bit of radio play over here in the UK, both on the BBC's Radio 1, and on specialist rock stations like Planet Rock - in both cases, they showcased pretty much the entire album.  No idea if that affected sales, though.  Maiden simply still has a huge following in the UK and radio-play may simply have been catering to that following, rather than a factor in influencing album sales.

As a Maiden fan since I first heard Killers and having seen every tour since the SIT tour(even though most of the time it required driving 3 hours 1 way to Chicago), buying all their albums even though some aren't as good as others, and as an American I only have one thing to say to all those bashing the U.S. and the Maiden fans who live here.......
KISS MY ASS!!!!!!!!!

I don't think anyone is 'bashing' America, nor the fans.

Mostly, the question is whether or not radio play makes a 'fan' buy the album.

Personally, I believe that, at this point, radio play won't make a big deal for Maiden.  What song on that album is built for radio?  El Dorado is the closest, I think.  Honestly, I don't think that there has been a 'radio' song since Can I Play With Madness.

So, I appreciate the exuberance, but don't think that anyone here is bashing America.

BTW, I drive 4.5 hours one way to Chitown to see Maiden.  ;)

I like Disturbed.  One advantage they have is becoming 'mainstream' aggression when it was popular.

The thing is, Maiden has always (IMO) been far more 'cerebral' than Disturbed.  They (Maiden) have songs that, usually, require more than a first listen to appreciate.

It's about recognition. People need recognition in order for radio play to work. They could play all the Iron Maiden we'd ever want, but it wouldn't really help them get recognized more.

Of course - and I've said this before - MTV won't play Maiden because the music isn't easily reproduced. That's why they love T-Pain. Literally ANY asshole can make the music he makes.

So, you are sure that, nowhere, in the USA, did Maiden get 'El Dorado' on the air?  I really do have a hard time believing that they didn't make it somewhere in NYC, LA, or somewhere else like that.

Again, I think that a lot of people listening for music like that, will be listening to XM for specific metal tunes.

Of course I don't know if Maiden was played in other states.

True, but FM radio play can help to introduce people to Maiden who have never heard them before. It is possible that someone could be listening and The Trooper could come on and they could be like "OMG! That song is amazing! Wow, what a singer!". Then they might tell their friends about it and the word would spread.

Ok, well if you are talking about ANY Maiden, then you are mistaken.  Where I live, there is a station in a town of 15,000 that plays The Trooper, Run To The Hills, TNOTB, and some other frequently.  My brother lives in KCMO, and there are stations there that I can hear Maiden on at least a few times a day.  In Denver, I know for a fact there is a station that plays older Maiden (SMX would prob know which one).  So, Maiden def get played over the air, just nothing that is so new.

Ah, I see. Here in Twin Cities, Minnesota, which has a much larger population, 93X MIGHT play them twice a week. I wonder how much rotation they get where you are.

Where I am at, I can hear them probably about once a day.  Granted, not a lot of song differentiation, but I still hear them.
