The Concert Thread

2024 wasn't a big year on gigs, but ended up with more gigs than I planned originally:

01.06. Bruce Dickinson - Budapest (HUN)
06.07. Pearl Jam - Barcelona (ESP)
13.07. Bruce Dickinson - Zagreb (CRO)
29.10. Dream Theater - Zagreb (CRO).

So, with that in mind, I planned a bit more gigs for 2025 hoping (although it probably is less than planned, still haven't bought tickets for all of them)

30.04. Dark Tranquility/Moonspell - Zagreb (CRO)
27.05. Iron Maiden - Budapest (HUN) +
28.05. Iron Maiden - Budapest (HUN) +
01.06. Iron Maiden - Bratislava (SK)
27.07. Gojira - Zagreb (CRO) +
23.08. Blind Guardian - Zagreb (CRO)
06.12. Clutch - Zagreb (CRO)

(I'll trade any of those without a "+" for a proper Opeth gig in a heartbeat).

2025 is starting off strong nationwide with a scorching lineup of gigs and tours to help get you ready before concert mania runs wild in a few months. Take a looks back at my ten favorite shows that we might have attended together in 2024 from W.A.S.P., Municipal Waste, Gatecreeper, Blind Guardian, Bruce and the boys; and more! Saw one of the best shows ever last night in Austin: Hans Zimmer!
Went to see Man of Steel and Wonder Woman themes but the ones that blew me away were Pirates of the Caribbean, House Atreides, Interstellar/Lion King, James Bond (No Time to Die), & Inception (Time)!
Visuals blew away the TSO!

Visuals after the 3 minute mark were jaw dropping

Plans for 2025

Avantasia 25th April - Oslo, Sentrum Scene
Maiden Budapest x2
Maiden Trondheim
Maiden Stavanger
Maiden Stockholm x2
Helloween 3rd November - Oslo, Sentrum Scene
Sabaton 11th December - Oslo/Bærum, Unity Arena

My first gig of 2025 was a special album launch one by the Manic Street Preachers at a relatively small club in Kingston-upon-Thames yesterday. They were originally going to play one gig, but sold out in seconds so they added an earlier afternoon show. I managed to get a ticket for that one and had a whale of a time. 60 minute show with a good mix of classics, 3 new songs, and some deep cuts that have not been played for a long time (She is Suffering since 2015 and Peeled Apples since 2010!).

Next gig will be The Darkness in Guildford next month, followed by the Manics in Bristol in April on their new album tour. I can’t wait!

My first Queensryche concert last week was pretty awesome. This was the first time they came here in 14 years, and as we know a lot of things in the band have changed since that.

They played the entire Queensryche EP as well as The Warning and an amazing encore after that. Todd is an insanely good vocalist, he's 50 and nailed the stuff that Geoff did in his 20s. Phenomenal. It seemed to me that Michael Wilton was in the spotlight more often than not, they made it pretty clear that it's his band.

My next show will be Udo Dirkschneider in March. He's doing Balls to the Wall in its entirety and I'm pretty stoked about that. After that I have:

Avantasia in April
Blue Öyster Cult in May
Dream Theater and Iron Maiden in June
The Offspring with Simple Plan in October
Helloween in November

I'm also considering WASP, Blaze and a couple of others.

Last night took my son's mother out for her birthday to our 1st visit to a place North of Houston called Dosey Doe.
2 story country themed with long tables facing the stage.
They serve a good 3 course dinner.
Then you turn your seat to face the stage.

The band was TOAST; The best Bread tribute band in the world!
I was raised on Bread as well as David Gates solo work so finally seeing these songs live and played so well was an emotional experience for me.

Great night

UTA we're amazing, even with Brittney in a compulsory bout of tour flu. I don't know why but I didn't appreciate just how heavy this band is. The crowd was going mental, limbs flying everywhere. The newish bass player is a great addition to the band, he's a real character on stage.

I'd definitely see them again, fantastic live band

I saw them for the first time in May and as much as I love Brittney, the bassist easily stole the show. That guy is just a giant ball of positive energy.

Saw Nikki Stringfield (of Iron Maidens) & Patrick Kennison (of Lita Ford) open acoustic for Marty Friedman last night.
They ended with Aces High!

Of course Marty's band was great as usual just way too much time spent asking for more noise from audience instead of actually playing a song.
Marty's band is very energetic!

saw Unto Others last night, great show, featuring a good spread from their albums and EPs.

Green Lung where the headliners, but I fucked off two songs in. They had good sound and seemed tight and professional, but I reckon the must have only ever heard the first 6 Sabbath albums and have no other musical points of reference. If it was Friday I would have probably got a beer and enjoyed them but not on a school night.

Missed out on one of the best new metal bands in Britain ngl
