Russia invades Ukraine

In a move as hilarious as it is pathetic, the Russian state have begrudingly conceded that Ukrainian forces did indeed sink their Black Sea flagship, the Moskva, and are claiming that a Ukrainian artillery commander is therefore liable for damages for breaking their toys.

Wonder how long it will take before they admit it when Putler puts on the wooden suit ...

This NATO chief is a completely tone-deaf bureaucrat and a sick fuck — posing in front of ruins and babbling about how NATO “stands with Ukraine.” Imbecilic PR and nothing but talk, talk, talk. “Yeah, you just keep fighting, and we won’t even close the skies over your country.” We’ll do the bare minimum so we can still look at ourselves in the mirror. Meanwhile, we — Europe — keep buying russian energy, and so on. The elites are utterly rotten, forever dodging hard decisions. The Western world needs a massive reevaluation of itself.

Closing the skies isn't bare minimum, as it would result in a direct confrontation that NATO isn't ready for without the USA doing the heavy work, but I do agree with the rest you are saying.

What I meant is that the West, right now, is doing the bare minimum and deliberately avoiding actually ending the conflict.
Yeah, it may be that Europe on its own still isn’t capable of fully deterring russia — and Trump in the U.S. is the cherry on top of that cake.

Apparently, Ukraine had cards to play after all - and those cards have only gotten stronger with time. Meanwhile, much of the Western world has spent years dragging its feet. It's frustrating, pathetic even.

Just imagine if Ukraine had been given long-range strike parity much earlier. If russia hit Ukraine, Ukraine could immediately strike back where it hurt. The russians would have understood from the start that this game is played by two sides.

At the very least, the war might have reached a stalemate - or been frozen - much sooner.

The silver lining to Trump pulling the rug out from under Ukraine is that they no longer need to tiptoe around US-imposed 'red lines'. In addition to this, they have now upped the proportion of domestically-produced weaponry. Refineries and major infrastructure are now being hit by long-range drone strikes on a practically daily basis and Russian logistics in Crimea and across the Southern front are being heavily constrained by mid-range strikes. It really looks like there could be a momentum shift in Ukraine's favour after the last couple of years of attritional grind from Russia.
