Russia invades Ukraine

Russia for sure, but US even more. And UK before that. And France. The list is long. If a country is or has been an empire, there's evil like this going on.
If, by saying that, you’re not trying to give russia a free pass to act as it does, then all I can say is this: the world is steeped in cynicism and behind-the-curtain games. But at least the West is trying to function like a normal society, whereas dictatorships and authoritarian regimes are driven solely by the need to cling to power.

I don't give anyone a free pass, just pointing out that US, UK and France might be worse historically and overall in that regard.

Having lived in both sides, I haven't seen much difference in the aspect of people being driven by the need to cling to power.

Have you ever lived in russia? Maybe you should consider signing up for the ruzzian army—they’re currently offering some truly impressive and immersive “meat assault” tours. :ninja:

Edit: Also, what about elections? Are you suggesting that such things don’t exist in the West? Ever heard of the peaceful transfer of power?

I have lived in UAE and China. I don't have experience about Russia, or meaningful insights.

What about them? Countless times politicians do not keep their promises once elected. Countless times people are deceived. Other times courts even cancel elections or inconvenient candidates are removed from the process, so what about elections?

EDIT: Obviously Democracy is always better on paper. Problem is that in real world, there are many nuances.

Elections = peaceful transfer of power = no clinging to the throne. And sure, we don’t live in Eden—people lie. Especially when they’re casting votes for populists or extremists.

"Other times courts even cancel elections or inconvenient candidates are removed from the process,.."

Oh, here we go again—it's Groundhog Day. We'll never find common ground, will we? I fully understand and accept that, for all its flaws, there's no better way of life today than the one we have in the West. Meanwhile, you speak as if there’s something superior out there. I’m starting to sense an anarchist streak in you.

I’m starting to sense an anarchist streak in you.

I consider being an anarchist as a good thing, but as everything political is a matter of actions and actions alone, therefore I assure you I'm not. Just a simple working abroad guy with nearly zero political footprint during his lifetime. And I am not too proud of it, but that's the reality.

Hmm, maybe it’s because you’ve been working abroad for a long time… Perhaps you’re longing for a real sense of home and family. Maybe it’s time to settle down and put down roots, as they say. But now I’m starting to sound like a psychologist—which, clearly, I’m not.

Yes surely it has played a role. The man is his experiences. And every one of us holds a different piece of the same puzzle.

Right now, Ukrainian Twitter is full of drone strikes successfully hitting Russian air bases. Videos of burning strategic bombers—just wow. At the same time, it makes me furious at the West. We've said it, we've screamed it for years: Russia is a giant with feet of clay. All it takes is determination, and that shithole could be crushed in days. Ukrainians are doing it with drones, because they have no other choice—and they’re showing what a creative mind under pressure can achieve. Fuck!
Ukraine does have "the cards"

Seen on Twitter: I repeat—it's NATO that should be begging Ukraine to join the alliance.
