For a band set in there ways, yes it is too much for them rotating sets lol.
It's true that they've always been ''lazy'' with the setlists, but after the songs on the last tours, the new stage and the replacement of a band member live, it's normal for the fans to think of more rare songs. Now, rare songs for them were Prisoner and Heaven in the last tour, so. For this tour are: Clairvoyant, Phantom and the 4 truly rare songs. But they could have changed Aces and Wasted - and still have a good and crowd participating encore (Hills).
Like the 2022 leg, they could have changed a good number of songs (easily), but let's say they had an excuse with the theatrics.
After having watched videos of the ‘new’ stage production. Is it just me or after all the talk of a totally updated stage is it still just the 2003 Dance of Death set up with the drapes now replaced with screens?
I think they couldn't change the shape of the stage because of the giant screen. And because of Bruce's singing above the drums. The whole show could have looked even bigger. The props were probably omitted for the same reason.
They could have used more pyro, for sure.
I think we can all agree that they shouldn't replace more than 3 songs. So, 80% of the setlist is perfect.
Yeah, in the encore. 2-4 songs.
The encore was totally anti climatic, swap out Aces and Wasted Years and the complains would definitely be less, even if it was Tailgunner, FOTD and Running Free
Anti climatic is a good way to put it, with these songs(!) Overplaying semi-staples always has that effect. Less for sure.
I really thought they hinted at Sanctuary, which I definitely prefer more. The casual fans just need the big 6 songs. That's it. It's easy. The fans like us here deserve more. The other complains are nothing compared to the setlists.
It's not that I'd be against it (for obvious reasons), but I wonder how big percentage of the ticket holders would actually be willing to trade Aces High for Tailgunner? Could be many, I don't know, but this kind of brings us back to the reason behind No Prayer's lack of live representation in general: almost all, if not ALL of its potential setlist inclusions have a superior equivalents in the earlier, and perhaps even later catalogue.
So as much as I'd love to hear some of those No Prayer tracks, it's kind of easy to see why they're not being brought upfront. Bring Your Daughter could be an exception that makes the rule, but given the pace of the set and sheer amount of songs, it seems that they didn't want to put in many extended sing-along, jam & crwod interaction moments.
We can't compare NPFTD songs with the classics, but you could say that the casuals don't want many new album songs. What's the difference? It's of their least popular albums, but they played Blaze era songs. The band should respect all of their albums. They don't even want a crowd sing-along song like Daughter, which is odd.
I think it would've been disrespectful to Nicko to suddenly debut songs they never played live before now that he's retired from touring.
Interesting thought. I guess they just don't want to play some of the rare songs for whatever reason. Which is a bit odd after the latest tours. Both Nicko (I think they would have played Sun And Steel with him) and Bruce have expressed a desire for more rare songs in the future, and for Bruce, Rime, Seventh Son are probably high on the list. I doubt his hype comments are ambiguous on purpose, for them rare songs are different from ours. Maybe Steve doesn't want too many changes? Bruce probably doesn't want to sing Infinite and Land.
What fucking songs would they have changed brother
Wasted, Aces(easily), even 2 Minutes, Murders, Powersalve. Although the latter two are essential with their animations. All animations are cool. CGI graphics are not something new for the band, lol.
