That's how it has been ever since 2010. It's an endless cycle. It goes like this (some stages can co-exist):
Step A) Everybody is thrilled, unless a sub-group is disappointed with the setlist (or lately performances). Then the posts will increasingly be about grievances and the thrilled fans countering that narrative.
Step B ) There is an uptick in excitement, and those initially negative are warming up to the idea that they are once again seeing Maiden
Step C) Why, oh why, are they playing Wrathchild?
Step D) Somebody messes up something or looks uninspired in a video or two: "What is up with member X!?"
Step E) I know this tour is cool and all, but can they please drop song X and replace with Y?
Step F) The negative posts nitpicking performances, often in exaggerated language with recurring expletives take over.
Step F1) The excited fans become annoyed, ask why there is so much negativity. Arguments about yay-sayers vs naysayers ("we love Maiden. That's why we are critical!!! We can't accept any standard of performance just because it's Maiden" vs "Maiden are in their career Twilight years. They aren't going to be in their 2005 state, and still maintain a good enough standard. They are almost 70 years, enjoy the possibly final tour")
Step F2) The average, non-critical/whinging fan stay away from the thread
Step G) The Negative Mob Rules.
Step H) Tour is over
Hi all, Great post from Yax, summed up my thoughts and inspired me to finally sign up to the forum and post something after years of reading it only.
Been a fan since buying Piece Of Mind in 1983 and have dropped in and out of love with the band over the years for various reasons. Outside of the mid 80`s peak this last 20 years or so has been an absolute joy to watch especially live, not every reunion album floats my boat fully but the shows and setlists since 2016 have been spot on for me.
We were at the Manchester show and stood for the first time in 8 Maiden gigs , about 20 rows back and it was awesome, way more tiring and physical than we expected, i am 53 though!
The show was great, screens are to me a big positive and a modern addition, rightly or wrongly AI doesn`t bother me at a metal show. I seem to remember many on here moaning about the inflatable Sensutsu stuff in 2022 being amateur?
Everyone has their own setlist thoughts and for me they could have dropped out SSOASS personally for Infinite Dreams and opened with Prowler but the band were on fire, tight, having fun. I genuinely don`t get what people want from a band 50 years in to there career with a lead singer who`s had throat cancer, they are still incredible and i am more than happy to accept a few changes from the original recordings or peak 2000`s live performances to still get to see them perform live at that level.
On a personal note i do think the massively negative review from Capnharris online has really influenced peoples thoughts . They are of course entitled to their opinion but having seen the show first hand and close up most of their criticism is wide of the mark in my opinion and maybe they are too attached to Nicko to move on?
Anyone with tickets to upcoming shows go and enjoy it and soak it up before all we have left on here are threads about our favourite memory of Maiden when they pack it all in, nobody is filling the gap that they will leave for me.
We are off to Spain and are catching the Madrid show and the dive bar and we can`t wait for it!
