Random trivia

Hey, sorry If I wasn't able to update anything, I've been busy with moving and transferring the internet connections :)

Carry on with Raven's question I'll just give the answer to anyone wondering.

It's Outlive, by Continuum Entertainment, though it had kinda crappy reviews, the Iron Maiden cheats are rather explicit.

can i play with madness - Invincibility cheat:
be quick or be dead - Speeds up the process
of researching, building, repairing and demolishing...
fortunes of war - Money cheat: you get $25000.
fear of the dark - Reveal entire map
the clairvoyant - Eliminates the fog of war.
revelations - Opens all campaign missions.

Okay, the answer (since no-one's forthcoming) is that Deathspell Omega's 2004 opus is titled 'Si Monumentum Requires, Circumspice' (Latin for 'If you seek His monument, look around you'), which is a slight deviation from Sir Christopher Wren's epitaph on the dome of St. Paul's Cathedral ('Si Monumentum Requiris, Circumspice').

Here's a better one; why are Compact Discs designed to hold 74 minutes of music?

Because that is the length of Beethoven's.... ninth symphony? Either ninth or seventh, not sure of that.

Yes, the Ninth.  Originally, Phillips (collaborating with Sony) had designed a CD to hold one hour of music (11.5 cm diameter).  Sony demanded that it be able to hold Beethoven's Ninth on one disc.  The disc size was extended to 12 cm in diameter, which can hold 74 minutes of music, which was the total time of the longest recording of the Ninth held by Sony at the time.

OK, this one is courtesy of Forostar:

What is the oldest still active rock band?

My other thought would have been Cream as they had a reunion recently - but not sure that counts. I also though of The Kinks but I'm not sure of their current status.

The Who are older than Cream. The Kinks are older than The Who, still not old enough.

The trouble is, I'm not going to be that clever with the dates these bands start. And I could just keep listing 60's bands until I get an answer, but that may take up too much effort and spoil it for someone who actually might know.

So I will have one more stab at Pink Floyd.

If it ain't them, then I don't know of any other band that was around then and still active.

Hey!  One I (think I) know the answer to!  Unfortunately, I don't have a good trivia question of my own yet, so I'll think about it and give someone else a chance to come up with it.  Very good question, and the answer is not at all intuitive.  I also was fascinated by the CD length question -- good for Sony.

EDIT:  Okay, I think I have a good trivia question; first, the answer to Perun/Forostar's question -- I believe it is Golden Earring.

My question:

Who is the man pictured below, and why was he referred to by one respected journalist as "one of the three greatest Americans of the 20th century" (the other two being Franklin Roosevelt and Martin Luther King, Jr.)?

Correct!
Golden Earring is a Dutch band that formed in 1961. They had some chart success in the Anglo-Saxon world in the 1970s, but they are still going strong, and it would simply be wrong to reduce them to that commercially successful era. The Rolling Stones formed in 1962, so they are one year short of that record; all other bands mentioned formed sometime during the early sixties, but not soon enough.

Important to know is that Steve Harris is one of their biggest fans and particularly influenced by their bass player Rinus Gerritsen. 'Arry is also shortly featured in a documentary about the Earring ("Don't Stop the Show" released in 1999)
