Question for Iron Maiden Fan Club Members

A hollow universe in space
Hello everyone! My name is Nuno, i'm portuguese and, of course, a huge maiden fan! This is my first post ever on this forum, just joined today!

i have a question... i'm considering joining the iron maiden fan club, could you guys talk a bit about your experience(s) with the club, how would you rate it compared with other fan clubs and if you recommend it?

thanks!

Hey Nuno, welcome!

As for the official fan club it really depends on your own activity and how you want to use it...If you're looking for a place to just chat Maiden I would recommend staying here because the official forum is not more active with regards to Maiden talk...Most of the important news you can find on Maiden's Facebook or here...

The fan club is definitely worth it if you have plans to go see Maiden when they hit the road again. Maybe next year? Pre-sale tickets for shows, first to the barrier wristbands (if they still do those?) etc are very nice....Made it possible for me to be right upfront at the barrier in 2006.

The membership package could be better to be honest but when you resubscribe you get a membership Maiden t-shirt. There's also a 2£ discount for items in the shop so if you're planning to load up on Maiden gear it might also be worth it. The magazine you receive a few times a year covers the recent news and has interviews with the band and the crew, not always super interesting if you're a fan who checks the forums/maiden regularly, but a nice collectible item :)

Sometimes they do like video tours and diaries...but during "off time" like now, it's very slow around the FC. if I were you I would wait until more news around the new album is out and then join around that time...That's when things will pick up for sure for members. :)

Thank you very much for taking the time to explain this!
I guess nowadays it's a bit difficult for a fan club to actually give first hand news and stuff, since we already have forums and, well... pretty much the whole internet!

Yeah exactly. Old time forums/message boards are dated compared to social media like Facebook, Twitter etc...Maiden and their management communicate more with their fans on Facebook than they do on the FC forums/homepage.

@SirRobbins Yup, I'm not criticizing it. That's just the way it is nowadays. Forums are turning into a dying medium as the social networking age takes over. Of course they will always be around for more in depth discussion and niche talk etc but younger generations of fans are more and more gonna turn to the social media sites for information and chat, not forums...

I know and have always wondered if they are more attentive to the commercial fans than the die hards (one example is their set list choices each tour with the exception of TFF tour and AMOLAD tour which clearly was a die hard tour

Forums, ultimatly, are much more for the diehard fans, so to speak. You just can't get the amount of details that you get on a forum on facebook. I think on facebook people have more of a "just passing by" attitute in general.

Not a FC member but I did join the Megadeth Cyber Army, and their fan package was cool. A T shirt, signed band photo, signed CD, FC card, picks, pass, coin, other stuff and I paid $50 to join. Apparently there's a chat where you can chat with the actual band members but they're so busy I guess they only do it once a month or so. But they do prowl the forums occasionally. I guess Maiden can do that, it'd be awesome to chat with Bruce or Steve!

I think that if you please only the hardcore fans, you'll lose the masses. Masses = more money. In terms of live performances, i think hardcore fans would be happier at a more intimate venue, but for the better and for the worst maiden is a much bigger band than that.

Sounds like an awesome fan club

I would love them to come back to a small venue but of course, this means more tour dates and they are getting old. It is likely easier for them to do big shows and take breaks

True and on a big Facebook post you really miss the rapport and relation to people, you're just responding to a post. Forums have a great deal more of that.

I got a signed Megadeth CD from Dave still in the shrink wrap from amazon a month ago for $17 :) Amazon had some deal where he was signing them before they got shrink wrapped

Do you think fan interaction is better, worse or the same on facebook than it is on forums? I ask you this because people can, in fact, create facebook groups and thereforesome sort of community. I prefer forums still

I have seen maiden reply to plenty of comments on their facebook page though. I saw a guy comment on the Somewhere in Time review by Kerrang and said
poor album". maiden responded with "Poor comment" I laughed... also called a guy a smart arse for a comment on their issue #99 fanclub mag
