Question for Iron Maiden Fan Club Members

very much so. Facebook is just random comments and then people don't go back and look at responses or carry on conversations as we do here. They just "post" and that is all

Yeah, i agree. I don't know (since i'm new in this maiden forum) if it's normal or not for forum members to actually meet outside the forum or not,i just see it as something natural since we all share a huge bond: Maiden.

I usually don't actually get to know anyone outside the forum that are diehard maiden fans. I sure do meet a lot at the shows though and realize some travel further than I do to get there

Better get on it soon. I say that knowing they are old but I know they could keep going. Not sure how much more they can go though. Nicko has likely taken the biggest physical toll of them all.

Although i think they'll continue for at least another 5 years, i will absolutely catch them on the next european run, for sure

Yeah, I've met, what, eight or nine current regulars? Plus a bunch of people you don't see here anymore.

The fanzine is contentwise a big disappointment. You often need to wait long for it, and when it arrives, it does not shake the universe. This time it had a nice interview with Nicko on his drum kits. But it annoys me that paying members do not hear a letter of news earlier than non-members. Not a letter. Any kind of news. Any kind of info. In the old fanzines, which get reprinted in the new ones, it was clearly more about Maiden trivia and it told what the band was doing at that moment. These days, there's just continuous mystery in a lengthy void.

Sixes summed it up. It has advantages for gigs and merch. I am still a member because we're going to have an album year (an ultra rare event these days) and one can always hope for more substantial contributions that have to do with music.

Likewise. Apart from ticket pre-sales, and a handful of collectable stuff, it's not amazing value for a fan club.

^ I'm sure back in the 80s it was different when they did not have a massive fan club. Everything changes when you have masses joining.

Well, it's hard to compare, back in the early to mid 90s there weren't any information on what the band was doing besides the fan club mag you'd receive. I was just browsing some old mags from back in the early Blaze days and basically they're running it just the same as they were then and some of the 90s mags were really thin with not a lot of info. Of course the old magazines had way more advertisement pages for new Maiden gear that FC members could order via forms in the mag and the only way to contact the FC was via a PO box. And the old mags used to have a penpal section as well...But then in return, the mags would be way more Maiden-centered as in, exclusively about what Maiden has been up to, what they plan to do, tour reports etc etc but then that was also the only Maiden news you'd receive except from what metal mags would write...The new magazine has a lot of focus on people outside Maiden, people from the crew, technicians etc etc...Which is not always that exciting :)

Around the time a new album is released, there are massive features about Maiden in most metal magazines I know, with lengthy, lengthy interviews and much more space dedicated to them than to any other band.

They've been on the cover of Kerrang (back when this mag didn't suck) Metal hammer, etc etc quite a few times in the 80s/90s too!
