Queensryche & Geoff Tate

I thought it was good! Like, musically it's rather different from the original, and as you say borrows heavily from the Key, especially in terms of vocals, but I think it all gels. The thematic stuff is very cool with the lyrics coming from Doctor X's perspective.

I heard some snippets of 4 to 5 tracks so far and they sounded good to me, especially guitar melodies are much more inspired than the Key ones.

Geoff always seem to do better when he's coached, or co-writes the vocal melodies with somebody else, be it DeGarmo, or Tobias Sammet.

I really like You Know My Fucking Name, The Answer, Vulnerable, I'll Eat Your Heart Out, Do You Still Believe and Power. But I do agree they would be better with more... challenging and classic Tate-esque melodies and singing. All the stuff he's done with Avantasia kicks ass, but I think when he writes his lines by himself, like here, he tends to be a bit lazy and sing comfortable lines.
 


After multiple listens my opinion is unchanged — this album is a hot mess of terrible vocal melodies and harmonies, embarrassing synth orchestration, weak songwriting, and very uneven instrumental work (with some admittedly high points). “Power” is by far the best song on offer here, and even that one is pretty uneven.

Critical consensus seems to be fairly positive on this album, which is an utter shock to me. Don’t know what you guys are smoking.

Honestly, if you like this cowpie of a record, you should give The Key trilogy another shot, because it’s way better than this one.

Also, fuck Geoff Tate for only selling the CD through his website and then trying to charge $30 for it. For those of you who enjoy the album that’s incredibly exploitative.

Interesting. Nothing from The Warning is immediately standing out to me as a jumping-off point for multiple concept albums, but I guess we’ll see…
 
The Warning is a classic, maybe a few steps down from Rage, Mindcrime and Empire but I like it alot. Back then there were alot of Maidenish guitar harmonies in Queensryche as well as in Fates Warning.
 
The thumbnail is a bit harsh (though I mostly agree, judging from the relevance of their most of their output since 2013- but honestly, it's not only due to Todd). :D

Yeah, for me it would be more honest to go by Rising West, but I completely understand they would sell half the tickets under that moniker, if that.

Lame video with bad reasoning and arbitrary band choice and order. No discussion at all about how far off the rails Geoff Tate had taken the band for over a decade before the split. It even acknowledged that the LaTorre Queensrÿche music wasn’t of bad quality, so it was just a weird critique in general.

At least they had the good sense to trash Blaze in the same video, all the way up at #3! :ok:

I think O:M2 is even worse, because it was not really recorded by the band and because of the expectations brought by its name. In the period starting with Tribe, I've often been disappointed by their output (even with Todd, except for the self-titled album, however poorly produced it is). Anyway, and though I like most of Q2K, I think they should have called it a day when Chris DeGarmo left.

What I don't understand is why they still haven't released an official live album with LaTorre. :confused:

There are some good songs on that one though:
One Foot in Hell, Hostage, The Hands, Re-Arrange You, The Chase and Murderer?
But it's way too long and can´t hold up against the original masterpiece O:M. But then again: which album can?

After 4 albums that is indeed a bit weird.
