Political Correctness strikes again (Pt 7 .. No Sex Dolls in School)

Re: Political Correctness strikes again (Pt 3 ..Super Bowl Ad)

I'm not sure she saw the commercial though, the majority of it was a wife/girl friend trying to get her boyfriend/husband to eat stuff with fewer calories (giving him a fruit cup instead of a huge breakfast, swapping a burger for something else).  then while jogging he does stare at a very attractive woman, and the wife gets mad at him for looking at her and throws something at him.

I did not see a sterotype in any of that (beyond possible the age old nagging wife and childish husband), the woman getting hit with the can was very slapstick, no moreso than the dog in the Doritos commercial

Re: Political Correctness strikes again (Pt 3 ..Super Bowl Ad)

Exactly. What's going on is one woman picking one aspect of a commercial; if all three people had been white, people could have suggested it was racist for not having black people, etc.

Like I said, we should look at the claim, analyze it, realize it is ridiculous, and carry on.

Re: Political Correctness strikes again (Pt 3 ..Super Bowl Ad)

I agree with both of you here. LC's friend is right that a second look should be taken, but I took a second and third look and came to the same conclusion you and LC came to... The ad was meant to be funny.

I am much more offended by the Burger King "hit moms" ad: http://www.bestads.tv/view/650/burger-king-hit-moms/

Why? you ask. watch it. Did you also notice how the black woman has no lines? she was thrown in there for "diversity" sake as the token minority, and that is more offensive than not having a black woman in it at all...

That's just a dumb ad. Is it really worth making a fuss over? And is that "African-American history month" really something sacred that is in everybody's consciousness?

Here in Ontario, Canada, the black history month is always advertised in schools.  I never even heard of women's month or hispanic month.  Does this exist or was Onhell being facetious?

I don't care for American football, or Canadian for that matter, so I don't watch the superbowl.  I wouldn't even have known it was on if wings weren't dirt cheap during the weekend.  :D  Anyway, my point is that while I haven't seen the ad, it sounds stereotyped.

Huh!  When you put it in the full context, the ad does not sound like it is stereotyping black people at all.

They Exists:

Notice how Hispanic heritage month is from Sept 15th to Oct. 15th... that's right, even our month has to cross a border :p (not my joke admitingly, but still good.)

Re: Political Correctness strikes again (Pt 3 ..Super Bowl Ad)

I've never heard of women's month. But definitely Hispanic Heritage Month.

These are the only ones we need.
Black History Month (USA)
Women's Month
Hispanic Heritage Month
Canadian History Month
National Dental Month
American History Month
Human Relations Month
AMD/Low Vision Awareness Month
American Heart Month
National Children’s Dental Health Month
National Wise Health Consumer Month
Prenatal Infection Prevention Month

Seriously I didn't count until I finished but there are 12.
And for this one, WTF
Return Shopping Carts to the Supermarket Month
And my opinion on the ad, I think Lee is just a crazy lady with nothing better to do. Much in the same vein as Tipper Gore. But I find her argument even more ridiculous than Gore's.
Jackson Lee said it was ridiculous for the soft drink maker to air the advertisement during African-American history month.
So? There were plenty of other ads with African-Americans in it.
"In this month of African-American history where we're trying to celebrate what is good and great, it certainly seems ridiculous that Pepsi would utilize this kind of humor," she said. "It was not humorous. It was demeaning — an African-American woman throwing something at an African-American male and winding up hitting a Caucasian woman."
So what is so demeaning about it? The answer is there is nothing demeaning about it. I saw no racism the first time watching it and I don't think any one else did. I don't see why it couldn't be a Caucasian couple in the same situation.

"That is why I'm so disappointed with the Pepsi advertisement that showed a demeaning role for African American women, in an ad that showed a can being thrown and being utilized to wound someone else or hit someone else," she said.
Again Lee is just describing what happened in the commercial and not explaining what is so wrong with it. I make the point again, the same thing could happen with a Caucasian couple.

"I think that we can come together in a much better way, sell Pepsi, and as well talk about good nutrition," she said. "But, frankly, I consider this insulting, and so did many other women of all colors."
Like who?

Jackson Lee also said it would be great to have a lot more women in ads at the Super Bowl.
This line made me laugh. It just proves that this person is just the type that will jump on anything that can be argued as "Offensive". There were more women in the Pepsi ad than Men so what are you arguing about now? I am not African-American but I think that I would be more insulted if a commercial I was in was deemed racist rather than not being in the commercial at all.
Just my 2 cents.

Seeing how I just had to reinstall Windows on my laptop again because it went into a blue screen loop, there's one motto I can sympathise with.

A joke that made me smile.  B)
This world has too many celebrate this or that months.  (I realize many of these are needed to raise awareness).

Re: Political Correctness strikes again (Pt 3 ..Super Bowl Ad)

oops. Nevermind.

Re: Political Correctness strikes again (Pt 3 ..Super Bowl Ad)

Apart from that amendment interpretation, everyone seems to agree on not liking the omission of the n-word.

As Foro said, we all agree on the ad being stupid, not racist, and the N-word thingamajig.

No all three of you are wrong.  I disagree with the agreement.
