Paul Di Anno Discusses His Departure From Maiden

28 years since Maiden kicked him, and he's still asked about that. I'd become agitated too about that.

Sometimes he provokes it, also see his projects : The Original Iron Men, Killers, etc what is this ??

The thing that gives him attention.
He's had a long solo career, but people always identified him with the two albums he made with Maiden. It's the thing that keeps him over water.

BTW, Killers is/was an individual band with their own material and no relation to Maiden (yes, they did cover Remember Tomorrow, but whatever). It's pretty much the only project of his that ever went anywhere. They even produced a minor classic, Murder One (1992) that is definitely worth checking out.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check it out  :ok:

Do that. This is really by far his best effort, outside Maiden. Back in those days he worked with a good band, and Murder One is full of quality songs with nice guitar work. A bit of Judas Priest kind of metal (still different), really good!

I heard a solo song called Living Dead a few months back. It was really cool, sort of classic metal with a gothic touch. He goes really high, and at the end he do a ''siren'' scream. But some people have commented, saying it's not really him. Anyone know anything about this?

I didn't watch the video, just read the article, and my reaction: Di'Anno needs to chill the fuck out.

I mean, so what if he was asked if drugs are why he left Maiden? Yes or no question; answer it and move on. No reason to go psychotic about Harris and Maiden. Maybe it's just me, but if I had no regard for Maiden, I wouldn't devote that kind of time to insulting them.

And the Hitler comparison is just out of line. Comparing anyone to a guy who is responsible for millions of deaths is almost always a sign of pure idiocy.

I have to wonder if Di'Anno does this kind of stuff on purpose, because he knows it will get him more attention than his solo career does. I'm not insulting his music - but we all know Maiden is much bigger, and he knows spewing this kind of verbal feces will make people notice him for a few seconds.

Yeah, Paul is certainly dishing out low there. But I can honestly feel for him: He's been asked these questions for 28 years. It's been in every magazine every time he did something. He's answered it all, all the questions. It's all been said. There's nothing new to add. He even wrote an autobiography. But people still ask him about it.

I mean seriously, even I am tired of it. 'News' about Paul dishing out after he'd been asked about Maiden pops up about twice a year. Why don't people leave him alone and pay some attention to the music he's doing?

He still plays stuff from the from Iron Maiden and Killers, so as long as he does Maiden material, bringing up Maiden is fair game. They will always be intertwined, no matter how many decades pass. I think he just got rattled because he was trying to promote his tour and not have a Q & A about the circumstances when he left.

This video really killed my respect for the man.
Hell, i consider calling Harris "Hitler" a personal insult!

I don't really agree with the majority on this one. If you only read the article without watching the 10min clip, then you'll miss out on the mood. Yes, he seemed fed up (as if he was just waiting for a question about Maiden), but the mood was much lighter than it was presented in the article above.

And I think everyone understands that he was just illustrating Harris as a dictator when comparing him to Hitler. He wasn't implying that Harris is as bad as Hitler...

My thoughts exactly. Steve was the creative leader in the early days and he was quite dogmatic about it. Then when Adrian and Bruce came along, the creative bulwark switched a bit.

The video version does not sound nearly as bad as the text alone.  Di'Anno acted no differently during his rant against Maiden than the questioning period before that.  What I do find interesting is that Di'Anno keeps emphasizing that his career is not about "money, money, money', yet he still plays Maiden songs live and as other members have pointed out his past bands and the biography "The Beast" employ Maiden names.  Can it all be a coincidence?  Come on, he's being a hypocrite as far as I can see...

That's exactly the problem. Using comparisons to Hitler dilute the seriousness of that charge. If Harris isn't as bad as Hitler, then the comparison shouldn't be used.

Hitler killed innocent millions. Many thousands more died to stop him. These things should not be taken in vain.

If you can still find one alive, try using a Hitler comparison like that around a WWII vet. He'll kick your ass for it, and you'll deserve it. This is not something to be said casually or joked about.

I disagree. I don't think anyone should be immune to humour and ridicule. I still think you are all taking to to seriousily and over-analyzing it :/
