Imagine this situation:
Iron Maiden decides to play a one-off concert with a full orchestra and a choir for a CD/DVD release. They need help from the fans to see what songs would they like to see "orchestrated".

My setlist suggestion:
01. Where Eagles Dare
02. Infinite Dreams
03. Dance Of Death
04. No Prayer For The Dying
05. Wasting Love
06. Prodigal Son
07. Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
08. The Nomad
09. To Tame A Land
10. Mother Russia
11. Dream Of Mirrors
12. Iron Maiden (this song is played at every concert, so there's no point in excluding it)
-
13. Journeyman
14. The Trooper
15. Hallowed Be Thy Name
:rocker:

Many of Maidens songs would lend themselves well to this, it does seem like it has been done to death though.  I'd be happy if they did it and check it out, but would probably be happier if they did it 10 or 20 years ago.

1. Phantom Of The Opera
2. Phantom Of The Opera
3. Phantom Of The Opera
4. Hooks In You
5. Phantom Of The Opera
6. Phantom Of The Opera
7. Phantom Of The Opera
8. Phantom Of The Opera
9. Phantom Of The Oppera
10. Phantom Of The Opera (remix)
11. Iron Maiden (just for the heck of it...)
------
12. Phantom Of The Opera (intro only)
13. Phantom Of The Opera
14. Phantom Of The Opera

:shred:

'nuff said.  :innocent:

Haven't heard that one before  :P

Some of Maidens would be absolutely brilliant if played properly with an orchestra, but done wrong and it could be a nightmare (As some others have found out).

Exactly, this might be a decent right before the call it quits kind of deal, Eddie can conduct.

Starblind
Thin Line Love Hate
Nomad
Isle of Avalon
Coming Home
Great Good of God

Those are just off the top of my head.

This idea comes up now and then. Hate the idea myself. I love classical and I obviously love Maiden but together? Feels all kinds of wrong. The way they use the strings gently in songs like Blood Brothers is perfect. Sometimes more is a bore.

I agree. Though on the other hand....Imagine Paschendale with an epic film score-like orchestra in the background. Like in war movies. Would be like Iron Maiden + Richard Wagner  :yey:

I don't know weather or not this would work. It worked for other bands so I don't see why it wouldn't with Maiden. Songs that would sound good:

Blood Brothers
Paschendale
Journeyman
Clansman
Dance Of Death
Coming Home
Starblind

I think these would be fitting choices. After giving it more thought I decided that an "S&IM" show, as Mega puts it, might actually be pretty good. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing it at all.

I think that it would suit Maiden more than it suited Metallica, because Maiden is much more melodic, and they used keyboards and orchestrations much more often than Metallica. Also, Metallica's S&M setlist was shit.

Personally I think Metallica's S&M project was a disappointment. But on the other hand they did what it it said on the cover, Metallica and Symphony: Metallica smashing through their songs like they always do with a symphony blaring behind them. Granted some songs worked better than others, Nothing Else Matters and The Call of Cthulhu comes to mind as highlights. But so much more could have been done with this and if you are going to bring Michael Kamen and the San Franciso Orchestra on stage with you, you should at least attempt to make it work better than they did.

I should check out that S&M thing. From what I've heard they only did it so that they could do Nothing Else Matters with an orchestra. I've heard KISS symphony and that was quite good.

That would not surprise me. To me the final result sounds more like it was a "Lets do it because we can, and because it sounds cool to have done it" kind of project, instead of them actually putting serious thought behind it..

You do get two brand new tracks (Load/Reload leftovers?) in No Leaf Clover and Minus Human. Extra bonus for fans I guess. But once you've listened to them a couple of times on the S&M album you really just wish you had normal studio versions of these songs....

In all honesty, I could really care less about that.
