Official Star Wars Thread

If anything I think it is the more purist Trek fans that have a problem with JJ.
This is very true. I have a lot of difficulties with what JJ did in Into Darkness, but I still loved it as a movie. It's just...not the Star Trek I grew up loving.

But that's okay. That's why it's an alternate universe.

Been reading speculations and rumours all night. (I'm definitely not spoiler-sensitive, I embrace them.) There are definitely some interesting ones out there, and my favourite one concerns Max von Sydow's role. Can't wait to see if it is actually true or not.

"This isn't the spoiler page you're looking for"

Didn't take Disney long to take that one down.

All I can remember is:
There's been a 40 year power struggle between the Empire and the Rebellion. Lots of force activity, but old Luke Skywalker has removed himself from public life for the safety of his family ( I think) so can't train people for good. The dude at the start of the trailer is a Stormtrooper who is strong in the Force. All sounds very dark and moody. There's more I've forgotten, but it was enough to get me excited.

Here it is. You put a capital D in "disney" in your link.

But it is a fake leak from a troll on 4chan who is a good storyteller, and who managed to make use of every known rumour and a big knowledge of Star Wars to make everyone excited. He was called out when his so called scans of pages in the script proved to be nothing more than MS Paint work, and not even good such.

Anyway, the "leak" wasn't that believable in the first place, it was just a little more exciting than reading some speculation by anyone on a forum. Of course most wanted to believe, because the ideas sounded so damn good.

Some of the rumours certainly make sense. But I'm happier knowing they are still just rumours.

To anyone interested in rumours about Episode VII, MakingStarWars.net is a good source both presenting orignal rumours as well as reporting on others:

My general thoughts right now (I put them in a spoiler, because I touch on a few spoiler-ish rumours):

Domhnall Gleeson is by far the most mysterious role in the new Star Wars judging by current rumours. Either his part is very small, or it is a secret they're working hard to keep. He is an actor very capable of being a lead, a caucasian male who could play a Skywalker (and looks very much like Ewan McGregor while sporting a beard), and while I admire the casting of John Boyega and Oscar Isaac, are you saying that Disney is going to make a multi-billion dollar investment in a series know for a white audience with a black brit and a latino as the male leads? I would like to think so, honestly, because I hate all the racism there is, but I don't believe the world is there yet. And people who have so much money, they aren't the ones who takes risks. I've seen enough comments on John Boyega for it to be anything but a very daring choice. Having both Boyega and a white caucasian lead however!

More so, Star Wars-film series being a series about the Skywalker-family - bets are there at least are two new Skywalkers in the new trilogy. That leaves Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver as being likely candidates, and rumours about Adam Driver sort of makes that unlikely (there's been widely agreed that he is a villain from an aristrocratic family).

I can see John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Oscar Isaac as being the leads for Episode VII, but I'd bet one of them is going to do a Qui-Gon and we'll see Domhnall Gleeson as the Luke/Anakin of Episode VII-IX.
