My favourite is still AMOLAD, but I think BNW has climbed back to #2, where it once was. Yeah, it's probably the most repetition-heavy in their discography and both DoD and TFF have higher highs (but also lower lows) but it's amazing all the same. Even the Mercenary, whom I started to like lately, after 15 years or so.

Although, I admit when the seventeenth chorus of the title track played in my ears, I was wishing for a brave new word, indeed.

1. A Matter of Life and Death
2. Number of the Beast
3. Powerslave
4. Piece of Mind
5. Book of Souls
6. The Final Frontier
7. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
8. Dance of Death
9. Somewhere in Time
10.Brave New World

Granted I change mine occasionally
Also I think the 3 album run from 82-84 and 06-15 are Maiden at their best.

I wouldn't consider this my definitive "best or worst" list for Maiden albums because I change my mind all the damn time! :p So it may or may not be the real deal. For now, it definitely is!

3 years later and SiT still stands

This is my first post at this site. I just joined.

My top 3-4 favorites haven't changed in years. They move around within those spots, but always stay at the top.

The only change I've made to the list in recent years has been The Book Of Souls. Within the first week after I bought it, it was easily into the top 10.

After 6 months, it was, and still is, entrenched in my top 5.

That being said, because The Duellists was blasting while I showered, today just happens to belong to Powerslave as my favorite.

1) Somewhere in Time
2) Peace of Mind
3) AMOLAD
4) Powerslave
5) The Final Frontier
6) SSOASS
7) X Factor
8) Number of the Beast
9) Book of Souls
10) No Prayer for The Dying
11) Iron Maiden
12) Dance of Death
13) Virtual XI
14) Fear of the Dark
15) Killers
16) Brave New World (ya! fight me)

I have always been undecided between the first three albums with Bruce, but in the poll I voted for Powerslave: favorite beginning, favorite title track, favorite ending.

EDIT: full list done.

  1. Powerslave
  2. The Number of the Beast
  3. Somewhere in Time
  4. The Book of Souls
  5. Piece of Mind
  6. Brave New World
  7. Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
  8. The Final Frontier
  9. The X Factor
  10. Virtual XI
  11. A Matter of Life and Death
  12. Iron Maiden
  13. Fear of the Dark
  14. Dance of Death
  15. No Prayer for the Dying

My list, from best to worst:

The Number of the Beast
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
Piece of Mind
Powerslave
A Matter of Life and Death
Iron Maiden
The Book of Souls
Brave New World
Somewhere in Time
The Final Frontier
Dance of Death
Killers
Fear of the Dark
The X Factor
No Prayer for the Dying
Virtual XI

1- A Matter of Life and Death
2- Somewhere in Time
3- Brave New World
4- Piece of Mind

I feel to be at the same distance to the history and the reunion materials. But AMOLAD is special, at least because it was the first album that was released when I was into it. I still listen to the album by recalling these first feelings of joy and darkness.

Changes a lot but this is where I am currently. It does say favorite rather than best which is why I went for Powerslave as it has a lot of memories for me although technically I think A Matter of Life and Death is their best. Surprised to see 6 people in the poll put X Factor as their favorite, I like it a lot but preferring that to all of the classic era material plus the reunion stuff is mind blowing to me. Would be interested to know if those voters became fans in that era as the first albums you fall in love with tend to have a strong hold on your emotions.

1 - Powerslave
2 - Brave New World
3 - A Matter of Life and Death
4 - Piece of Mind
5 - Seventh Son of a Seventh Son
6 - Somewhere in Time
7 - The X Factor
8 - The Book of Souls
9 - The Number of the Beast
10 - Killers
11 - The Final Frontier
12 - Iron Maiden
13 - No Prayer for the Dying
14 - Virtual XI
15 - Dance of Death
16 - Fear of the Dark

I often say Powerslave is not on the level of other 3 albums of that line-up, and I stick by it. Truthfully, and discarding my running gag of TCW being top 5 Maiden, Powerslave is better than the remainder of the catalogue bar one record.

#1 constant; Somewhere in Time
#2 contenders; Seventh Son and Piece of Mind
#4 contenders; Powerslave and AMOLAD
