Only one  thing my Maiden friend national acrobat, no say "Atletico Bilbao", here, in te  Basque Country we hate deeply this name, it is an insult for us.

Name that of the team is Athletic Club of Bilbao, never Atletico Bilbao, we hate this name cuase was a spanish bloody imposition.

Thank you.

Sorry my bad english.

Well, let me tell you, that the Spanish in the Basque country hate the Basques deeply too. I have a Spanish friend from Bilbao who has never, had any hard feelings against the Basques from herself but grew to hate them. Why can't you just ditch this shit?

Only a thing, Perun, I have not spoken of hating the Spanish people,  I said that the Basques we hate this name for our Athletic Club. And the motive is that the Spanish imposed this name.

If a Basque was saying: “Athletic” word in a conversation and the police heard him, could go to the jail. The name of the team was prohibited for 40 years, and the Spanish forced to using of Atletico, because we hate this name.

I do not hate the Spanish people. I do not hate any human kind.

Sorry my bad english.

Un saludo

It's really sad to see that Conor is not the only one to promote hatred of a province for the country it belongs to...  :(
Promote hatred?  Maverick, I find that insinuation uncalled for.

I do not hate Italians but I'm bloody happy France has beaten Italia 3-1 yesterday eve!

:D

Good result for England last night - 3 points and did not concede. I did not watch the match (I don't have Sky) so I can't comment on the performance. Another good result for England was Croatia and Russia ending goalless - although I have a sneaky feeling that Israel may be good enough to push for qualification.

Good result indeed. This may give the Scots the glimmer of hope they need to qualify. I mean, should France draw or beat Italy in the return fixture and Scotland get a result from Italy and or France at Hampden, then.....

They do have some good youngsters coming through, so they could be a bit of a handful. Still, I do think it will be tough for them to qualify.

Surely the best result of the night must be Northern Ireland coming from behind twice to beat Spain 3-2!!  :ok:
Now that was slightly amusing. Once again they have embarrassed a top European side at Windsor Park. :D

It wouldn't be too difficult for Scotland to beat this Italy...we played soooo bad yesterday

Personally, I was rather astonished that Finland managed to hold Portugal to a 1-1 draw even though it is true that Portugal played most of the second half with only 10 men. The game between Germany and San Marino was ridiculous, I actually feel sorry for those guys from San Marino, they lost 13 (!) -0. Downright humiliating. The nicest surprise was certainly Northern Ireland against Spain, I love it when outsiders win. Well, I'm not sure what I think of the french winning 3-1 over Italy, it certainly makes me wonder how Italy is going to qualify. Sweden won over Liechtenstein, excellent, but that was to be expected. Hope to see many more exciting qualifying games with hopefully a couple more nice surprises like Northern Ireland.

As the top two go through, it still won't be beyond Italy for them to qualify. Italy could loose to France in their return fixture and still qualify.

Then again, taking into consideration their 1-1 tie against Lithuania (was it?)...all I'm sure of is that they'll haveto play a bit better from now on.

I felt very sorry for San Marino when I was watching the highlights of that match. It's pretty ridiculous that teams like Andorra and San Marino shouldn't have to qualify before they reach the qualifiers proper - it may sound a little harsh, but clubs in every country and national sides complain that there are too many international matches, and these tiny teams do not provide any sort of serious opposition.

I guess a good example of this is how the "little" club qualifies for the Champions League, etc. (even the FA Cup has preliminary rounds). A little tournament some time before qualifications start for real may be a good idea - then teams like Andorra, San Marino, etc. will get games against (potentially) teams of equal capabilities. Qualification from this would reap a big financial reward for them (should they go on to meet the likes of England, Germany and so on).

Exactly. However at the moment, there are too many games, and also the teams with a "minnow country" in their group have an advantage over others because they basically get six free points.
