I doubt it's actual "doping".  Just that millionaire athletes can afford greater personal health.  Things like a personal trainer, personal nutritionist.  New training techniques and surgeries have been created so that you can extend your playing career and recover more easily from what would have been career ending injuries.  You see it in all the major sports - people are playing longer with more success.

It has a lot to do with diet and their fitness regime - as LC stated. Arsene Wenger at Arsenal is quite well renowned for giving some of his players a longer playing career - Tony Adams is one - by following this principle.

As a sidenote, Micheal Owen had his cruciate ligament rupture during the last world cup. Normally, this would finish a player - but advancements in surgery has allowed him to have a cruciate ligament from a dead man (obviously, he was already dead, not suspiciously bumped off :P) put in place of his ruptured ligaments. Now, he is once again playing.

Hmm, I didn't realise they did that. It's certainly put me off ever rupturing my cruciate ligament. ;)

"Dead man walking", was a headline used in one tabloid. As another side-note, this is the same injury incurred by one of my dogs - the "ruptured cruciate". £1,300 to put it right.

Saturday, 19th May. The day V.F.B. Stuttgart won its 5th league title after winning 2-1 to Energie Cottbus. The last time Stuttgart won the German title was back in 1992 and I think maybe Stuttgart will become champions again for the 6th time next year. Players like Timo Hildebrand is about to join Spanish side Valencia while Markus Babbel is set to retire and will start coaching. Bravo!

OK, so how do we see the game going tonight between England and Brazil? Although the result is not important, do we think that England will put on a better performance than their previous games? Will Brazil just run away with it?

In truth, England have a tendency to play well against better opposition - and this is how I would want this game to go. They have been struggling to score recently and I hope this game and, more importantly, against Estonia on Wednesday they put this right.

Well, hardly any of the players showed that they were excellent this season so I have to fear a lot for England.

Saturday, 26th May. A dark day for league champs V.F.B. Stuttgart after it lost 3-2 to Nuremberg at the 2007 German Cup Final in Berlin. Armin Veh's side could have won the match and Stuttgart would have added the German Cup alongside the league title to its silverware collection. Nuremberg, the 9-time German champions, won this year's German Cup for the 4th time.

And they need to win it to stay in contention. :)

I'll be keeping the odd eye on it.

I am certainly interested, and if broadcasted, I'll check it out.

Do you have more information on this Championship? When, where and (exactly) what? Thanks in advance!

It's being broadcast on CBC nationally.  I don't know what internationally, but a lot of CBC sports are streamed live now, so you might be able to get it then.  It's a World Cup for people under the age of 21...all the major countries are participating.

I'm not sure if this is going to help you... but here is the TV schedule.

... and official FIFA site.

And officially it is called under 20 not like I indicated earlier, but I've edited it in my previous post so now no one will know.  ;)

And 2-0 up, you'd thought they would win - but alas it ended 2-2. Should they beat the already qualified Serbia, they would qualify to the semi's themselves. Again, a draw may not be enough.

tWill be tough against Serbia, Albie, but who knows!

Thanks for the info on the upcoming tournement in Canada, I remember now, that Holland failed to qualify. :/
Oh hell, I'll support Poland instead. :)

That should make the missus happy.  :)

I'm seriously considering going to bed now as I am extremely tired - but it seems the improbable is imminent. England are 2-0 up against Serbia with less that 10 mins on the clock (and with Italy 3-1 up, that is important).

Seems England will face Holland in the U21 Euro Semi's.

As a side note, Barca look set to win La Liga as Real Madrid are only drawing (however, Madrid need to win something like 25-1 to win it). So Beckham leaves them without winning the league.
