Conor, you are a footy fan..let's talk football (or European Football to all else) and leave it at that! Yes indeed spam was made by yourself and Perun but it was triggered by a deliberate unnecessary spam in the first place!
Southend just can't seem to stop loosing - that's three on the bounce in the league. They really need to pull their socks up and get out of this rut - or the season will be a long hard battle.

However, the three games they have lost is to Cardiff, Derby and Coventry. All three with realistic promotion prospects. So I'm not too disheartened - but at least they found the back of the net last night.

You don't know how funny that post is. The next game England play in London could be so far away that my unborn son (to be named Wayne, naturally) might be playing in it.

Wem-ber-ley.....Wem-ber-ley..... :(

LOL.  Yeah, I just checked England's schedule.  Their next game is against Isreal March '07 and they won't be playing Croatia again over a year from now.  Plenty can happen since then, including Michael Owen returning from injury.

The lousiest thing for me is that another Euro qualifier will not happen until Nov. 15.  I'll be on a plane then.  The chances of a football match on a plane are slim to none.  :(

  Loosing?
Anyway, in the Premiership, it has been another good week for Manchester United, as they won 3-1 after being down for the entire first half.  It's a pity the rest of the big teams won aswell ::P

Losing, then! :P

That is the second major grammatical error I have made is as many days. :(

Liverpool managed only a draw - at home. Is that not good enough for the Mancs? In saying that, Saha and Solskjaer have been on good form of late. Nice to see Ole on target! A player I do admire.

Actually, I have never considered Liverpool to be a threat in the Premiership.  That's not being disrespectful to the team, I just think they are better suited to Cup competitions.  The seem to play very well in the Champions League but at the weekend they are jaded.

I also admire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.  He has played "second fiddle" to a lot of big names down the years; Dwight Yorke; Andy Cole; Teddy Sherringham; Ruud Van Nistelrooy etc.  He has stayed at the club throughout the good and bad times.  As well as that, he is one of the most tr00 players in the Premiership ;)

Liverpool were very good last year, and I expected them to be more of a threat to Chelsea this year. Unfortunately, it looks like they aren't good enough, and I expect the main challengers to be Arsenal and Man U. The trouble with Chelsea is that even when their goalkeeper gets injured after 40 seconds or so, they are able to bring on the second best 'keeper in the league! And when he gets injured, they have John Terry to go in goal! They have the habit of grinding out wins every week even when they're not playing well, while Arsenal can play well every week and maybe lose or draw.

It's good to see Solksjaer back from injury and playing well - hopefully he won't keep Rooney out of the side. ;)

The QPR revival continued yesterday, as we drew 3-3 at home to Norwich. Unbeaten in three games under new boss John Gregory, we're steadily moving away from the bottom of the table. It looks like Southend were unlucky to lose the other day, but I guess it shows that relying on a striker's goals isn't enough in the Championship - the whole team needs to be performing.

Like I said before, Southend have played some decent Championship teams of late and lost all three. But, yes they may be reliant on Eastwood a bit too much. Next game for Southend - away to second placed Burnley. ::)

But what is interesting is two away trips to Leeds on the 24th (Carling Cup) and 28th (league).
Well, I did think the rot had stopped for the Shrimpers, as they got a point away to (who were second placed at the time) Burnley - but they go and loose to Ipswich 3-1 at Roots Hall. Considering the position of Leeds at present and even this stage of the season, we may be looking at the Elland Road trip as a 6-pointer (oh, I love those football cliches ;)).

Manchester United beat their rivals Liverpool 2-0 today :D

I still think Chelsea will slaughter them in the race for the title though.

Arsenal, has a good shot.  Don't count them out.  Or Bolton for that matter.

Bolton? There is absolutely no way that any one team will get the better of Man U, Chelsea and Arsenal. Maybe one, or maybe two - but not all three. Simple fact is, the Premiership this season is as a closed shop as the SPL is.

No-one was thinking of ruling out Arsenal, but after five wins on the bounce they are looking in very good form. I saw the Arsenal game this weekend (1 of 3 matches I watched) and they were very impressive, much more so than midweek against CSKA Moscow. Bolton will be lucky to finish top 6: Liverpool, even though they are playing awful at the moment, I expect to finish 4th; Everton and Spurs (once they get going) are also more likely to be more consistent than Bolton.

The other matches I saw were Villa vs. Fulham (1-1) and Real Madrid vs. Barcelona (2-0). Villa are my second team so I go to see them quite often, but they were disappointing on Saturday and need to buy some exciting players in January, mostly to replace Milan Baros who is a waste of space once he gets onto the pitch.
El Classico is always an interesting match to watch. Real Madrid had about three shots and scored two of them; Barcelona had all the possession and made a lot of chances but missed them all. Main culprit: Eidur Gudjohnsson, who was playing instead of injured Eto'o. Ronaldinho was anonymous just as he was in the World Cup, but Lionel Messi looks a real class act.

P.S. Albie, looks like we may be playing each other in League 1 next season. :(

I think the one thing about Spurs is that they are consistently inconsistent.  I think the top three already have been decided more or less, Chelsea will win the Premiership with Manchester United or Arsenal in second.

I think Villa may nick fourth spot, if they get a decent forward on form ;)

Well I fucking hope Liverpool picks it up.  They look like shit.  It is the same squad as last season, but they can't do shit right.

The Gunners already shot down Utd., I am looking forward to when they play Chelsea.  If we can just stay healthy, then we have a killer shot.

A English buddy of mine told me that Ashton Villa is British for mediocre. heh

Southend did the business on Leeds. Let's hope the league result this weekend is much the same. But only 34% possession and they still won 3-1. Just goes to show that it's not the possession, nor the shots on goal - it's what you do with it.
Good result. I can't believe how badly Leeds are doing though: I'd tipped them for promotion this year! The game at the weekend is obviously much more important, hopefully you'll get the same result.

Well, apart from having won the European Cup, more cups than anyone else except maybe Man U and Liverpool, and a good deal of League titles, yeah I suppose they're pretty mediocre. :P

JP Angel has been playing alright but he's hardly prolific, and they need to replace Baros with someone who won't just run with his head down in any direction. I did read yesterday though that O'Neill doesn't plan to sign anyone in January with the possible exception of James Milner, who is a really good player and in his loan season at the Villa was their best player. One good thing about Villa having a tiny squad means thay're forced to play young British players: Ridgewell, Davis, Moore, Agbonlahor, Gardner, Wittingham are all in or around the first team - if only Arsenal would do the same. ;)

A little known fact about Villa when they last won the league (around 1981ish, if memory serves me right), they used a whopping 14 players throughout the whole season. No squad rotation back then, eh?
So Conor. United travel to Southend in the league cup. Could this be the tie of the round, as a potential giant killing looms? Or could a reserve Man U team still be way to strong for the Shrimpers? I'm definitely going to try to get to this game. :D

To be honest Albie, this tie means very little to Manchester United and is probably one of Southend's most anticipated of the season.  United's Under 19 squad barely defeated Crewe so I'd say you have a good chance.  I actually wouldn't care if the Shrimpers beat the Reds so fair play till ye ;)  I wish Southend the best of luck :ok:

Yeah, the League Cup has become so devalued of late, but it always the best chance of the lesser team getting a crack at a trophy. But with three of the last four won by Man U, Chelsea and Liverpool so not always do the smaller teams prevail.

But Sir Alex would not want to loose this one - not because of the opposition (there is absolutely no history between the two teams), the man is highly competitive. But if they do loose, it won't keep him awake at nights.

As a footnote, the biggest club Southend ever knocked out of a competition is Derby back in 1988, 1-0 over two legs in the second round. Derby were top flight and Southend were in the third tier.
