NOW WATCHING

I absolutely agree that they have better storylines once 7 of 9 was on board. Not necessarily because of her, but also because Star Trek tends to get better as the series goes on anyway. The most interesting Voyager character was really getting to his apex at that point - the Doctor - and there's just some awesome episodes. The Year of Hell 2-parter is one of my favourites. I'm also a big fan of the one where the Doctor writes a holonovel.

As for DS9...I think you'll be pleased with how it goes. My favourite episode of Star Trek ever is from DS9. I'm also a massive fan of the Dominion War and a lot of the characters - Martok, especially. I was very sad that I missed a chance to meet General Martok in Halifax. Not the actor - he played the character for 3 days.

I think what 7 brought (beyond just being nice to look at) was a good counter balance to the Captain ... before she came on the show, they seemed too much of a happy family. I liked the Doctor, but they started him off with too much personality, so that lost the Data wanting to be human element. Tuvok did not have the half human struggle, Torres was too bitchy/annoying to be a good internal struggle character (in the early episodes they seemed to try that), Kes was too nice, Nelix and the Doctor ended up as good comic relief, Chacotay was an Indian (that seems to be about all his character was), Paris went away from being the "bad boy" pretty quickly.

I think the Seven chatacter brought what they show needed by adding a "star" to a good ensemble cast (along with better writing for sure as you mentioned) ... keeping in mind I am only on Season 5 and have not watched the whole show and I could change my mind a bit as it goes on.

I am just about to hit the Dominion war on DS9, I do recall that being good. I work from home quite a bit and slam though the series pretty quickly.

I can certainly agree that Seven adds more for Janeway to do. And that was certainly the problem - as the character was written to run roughshod over Maquis dissidents for some time, but then the network had them change and forget that storyline, she really ran out of stuff to do. Seven gave her a purpose again. Chakotay was easily the worst-written character in that show, as he was again supposed to serve as a counterpoint to Janeway - and then never was used that way. Robert Beltran came out as saying he hated the way they ended up writing the role, it was completely different to how it was sold to him.

I do not blame Beltran for being upset, his chatacter was one of the most bland characters in Star Trek history. They went away from the Maquis/Starfleet storyline was too quickly. I thought that could have been a good plot point for at least 2 seasons before they integrated, the whole Seska storyline could have been pretty good as well. They should have killed off Chakotay once they moved away from that direction, outside of an occasional "my people believe in "x"' stories he contributed nothing to the show.

They should have simply done something with the character. The Seska storyline was good when they used it, but after Season 2, it was absolutely boring. His episodes were straight-up bad. Given him more than what he was...but of course, they didn't.

I think the Seska story would have been better if she was on the ship longer, it did get a bit old by the time it was over. I agree though, they kept him very one dimensional ... but after the Maquis story died off, I am not really sure what they could have done with him that some other character was not already covering .. which is why I think they should have just killed him.

If they had better writers, they might have figured something out.

Since The Original Series, Star Trek first officers have always been poorly written. Spock? Awesome. But Riker, Kira, Chakotay, and Tucker were all generally among the worst characters on their respective shows.

Spock was the best by far, I did like Riker though ... he was a good counter balance to Picard and at least had some depth and took on the Kirk skirt chaser role. I have not watched Enterprise at all, but my least favortite are probably Sulu on TOS (still liked him though), Troi on TNG (anoying), Kira on DS9 from what I have watched so far, and Chakotay and Torres as a tie on Voyager (again, from what I have seen so far)

I really enjoyed Voyager when I was a kid and it was on the TV at 7 pm on Tuesdays ^^. 7 of 9 is a pretty awesome character and I really like the captain, Janeway I think is her name. But what I loved most of all was the intro music. I still sometimes search for it on youtube just cos its so fantastic. Then Enterprise took over and it was a total let-down. Apart from the fact that the captain seems a bit incompetent, I think they got the Vulcan all wrong, it just seemed like they deviated from their original concept of what Vulcans are like.

Anyway, I saw Tintin yesterday. It was certainly entertaining and true to the spirit of the books. But as one reviewer said, its a bit "over-enthusiastic" and I would have liked to see more of Snowy and less of captain Haddock in all honesty. I was also a bit disappointed that they chose not to use some of the music from the TV series, if only in the ending credits, that would have been a nice touch especially since they tipped their hats to the book illustrations throughout the film. But yes, entertaining at any rate.

I quite like Voyager, especially the Borg episodes. However I would have preferred it if there hadn't been so many pointless episodes like the one where they go on holiday to a Holographic village. Those sort of episodes are so dull; I wanted to see hem fight the Borg and hind a way home!

The Next Generation is ok. My friend bought the DVD of season 1 in the summer and we noticed some amusing character traits. Picard is a total dick to everyone and Troi points out the obvious all the time.

BW, you can't judge TNG by the first two seasons.

The problem with Voyager is that if you were connected to TNG, you thought of the Borg as The Big Bad Guys. Voyager made them into pussies.

I have only seen episodes here and there of TNG, and every other incarnation of Star Trek for that matter. I've seen the first and last episodes of TNG, and then some others in between so that I get the jist of the plot at least. So I'm not judging it on the first two seasons, neither of which I have watched fully, because I have seen plenty of episodes from the later series as well. :)

I just watched the DS9 Tribble episode. I remember catching this when it was first on, it was pretty hyped and I am sure one of their highest rated shows ever. They did a really nice job on it, it was well thought out and executed
