My examples are Canadian.  So anyway, I wasn't being all that serious.  No worries.  :)

  Ah ha haa, I was worried I had offended!  Hey, I forgot Canadians! They're cool.

LC does not live anywhere near Toronto.  Try again.  :P

Aw, gee whiz!  Actually I like Canada period.  I grew up in Western New York State (one ride over the Lewiston Bridge to Canada)( or Peace Bridge or Rainbow Bridge) and I always wanted to live there.  I just figured I'd never get a visa!  No qualifications whatsoever, sirs!!  :ninja:

Let's see, though . . . Vancouver's nice and I'd like to visit Montreal and Ottawa.

So how many towns, do you think,  will Maiden tear down in Canada on their upcoming 2010-2011 swath of destruction, i.e. tour?
;)

Montreal, Quebec City, Toronto is their most consistent as of late.  On the latest tour they've been to five western cities tough.

I think they need to visit St Louis.  and KC.  Oh, wait, those aren't in Canada.   ;) Oh well.
ESPN said that the state of Missouri had perhaps the worst sports week in recent memory.  Cardinals choking game 2 and then being swept by the Dodgers; Mizzou blowing lead against Nebraska and giving up 27 straight points; Chiefs (my fave team, btw) are 0-5; and the Rams are also 0-5 and perhaps the worst team in the NFL.  So, you deserve a little love from the world's best live band.

Back on topic:  In honor of the recent arrest of Polanski -- not going to restart that thread here -- I am rereading Lolita, "that book by Nabokov" as The Police once famously sang.  One of the great novels of the past century, and of the English language generally.

Ah, yes, my son and I had a conversation about how badly MO has done this past week.  My beloved Chiefs were so close to taking out the 'Boys... ah, well.  I like your reasoning!!  We deserve some solid rock from the band that H so loved the world to give us!

Who'd-a-thunk there would be two KC Chiefs fans on a mostly-European Iron Maiden forum.  It is a grim time, however -- it will take years to recover from Carl Peterson's bad personnel decisions.  What are the odds of Todd Haley actually murdering one of his players?  Would you bet at 100 to 1?

Nabakov is awesome -- have you read his other work?  He's really pretty humorous.  Polanski - not so much.

I'm hoping for Halifax.

Good morning Nova Scotia!!

In honor of this thread, I'm searching for new authors to read -- any recommendations from the Great White North?

Currently reading Brave New World(Aldous Huxley) and just finished The Silmarillion(J.R.R. Tolkien).
Both are great pieces of art.

I liked those two.  It's been a while since I've read them though.  The Silmarillion was almost biblical in a way.

I have selected the Epics of India, Ramayana and Mahabharata, composed respectively by Valmiki and Vedavyasa who were great sage-poets of ancient India. The stories center round emergence of monarchy and emergence of values and morality standard for the community in a given region of the old days on the matrix of terrible conflict where still love blooms silently in the most male-dominated society.

Finally got done with Shutter Island and all I can say is what a let down. I really like Dennise Lehane, who also wrote Mystic River and Gone Baby Gone. This one started as strong as the rest of his books, but then lagged towards the middle and the "twist" at the end was just stupid, I felt it a cop out. If you've seen the movie you know what I mean, if you haven't... well, it is worth the read, but don't expect a masterpiece.

Without spoiling it for others, is the book ending the same as the movie?  My wife saw the film version of Shutter Island recently and had the same reaction.  When she told me about the twist at the end being obvious, she apparently was right, because I then guessed it immediately, without even having seen any of the movie itself other than the 30-second commercial on TV.

I have not seen the movie, but from what people tell me, yeah it's the same, though in the book I didn't know until it was revealed, you don't see it coming. Most people that have seent the movie were like, "oh yeah, saw it miles a way." "oh yeah, such a predictable ending." I was half way through the book feeling like an idiot. The book maintains the conspiracy feel much better and not until he reaches the light house do you know, which is practically the last 50 pages.
