NOW PLAYING

I'm going to check their discography since 3rd album

Land of the Free (1995) is superb. Somewhere Out In Space (1997) is pretty good too. After Power Plant (1999), I cannot help but feel that things became quite repetitive, with lots of self-plagiarism and songs that strongly resembled tracks by some of their favourite bands.

Listening to these Gamma Ray albums in succession has brought me great memories of a time when I was much younger and less cynical.
Yeah, Land Of The Free was a revelation for me after a few years of metal being in the wilderness in the U.S. It was my gateway into power metal, and it's probably still my favorite power metal album overall.

They had a pretty great 10 year run starting with that album, IMO. Flew down to Atlanta to see their first U.S. show at ProgPower III in 2002, caught them in Barcelona on the Majestic tour in 2005, and then they actually came to Minneapolis at the tail end of the Majestic tour in 2006 and for Land Of The Free II in 2008. Good times.
