Can't get enough of this fantastic new Midnight Oil song.

So cool. The pumping drums by Rob Hirst. The edgy Martin Rotsey (guitar) on the left following that earwurm of a Bones* bass riff, then playing softer, then a bit harder with great feel... then, the songwriter of this track, Jim Moginie enters with a blueprint Oil-guitar melody on the right and in the middle. Then Jim switches to haunting keys.

The Oils have an unique mix of urgency and beauty, with its tense threatening mood and wonderful melody... and the Hirst train riding it.
It fits so much to my taste and why I love Midnight Oil. I'm not even beginning about the lyrics ...
Rising Seas (written by Jim Moginie)
= = = = = = =
Every child put down your toys
And come inside to sleep
We have to look you in the eye and say we sold you cheap
Let’s confess we did not act
With serious urgency
So open up the floodgates
To the rising seas

Temperature rising
Climate denying
Fever is gripping
Nobody’s listening
Lustre is fading
Because nobody’s trading
Wall Street is jumping
Still the music keeps pumping

If you can’t decide
Between wrong and right
If you can’t see through
All that you hold true

Queen of the firmament
Lord of all beneath
Masters of the universe
We’re all refugees
And in many countries they adore celebrities
Open up the floodgates
To the rising seas

Dinosaur stories
Reliving past glories
Lusting for gold
F-f-fishing for souls
They said it was coming
We knew it was a-coming

If you lift your game
Put your toys away
Well it looks like rain
On that western plain

Queen of the firmament
Lord of all beneath
Masters of the universe
We’re all refugees
And in many countries they adore celebrities
Open up the floodgates
To the rising seas
... and the Peter Garrett performance. Apart from saying that the timing of this release is excellent.

*Bassist Bones Hillman died in 2019 but recorded music with the band in that year, so he is on this song and on the upcoming album.
In this clip you see, amongs lots of impressive footage, the standing bass guitar next to the drums. It is a poignant sight.

By the way: it IS cool to see old people rocking in a video. I want band members in videos. This is how it is done.
