Nicko McBrain retires

Sorry, I'm not on Facebook, and I haven't read anything I recall about Roy and FB here, so I'm oblivious to that reference :)
Roy Z has been raging and ranting about being "left out" by Bruce, especially when one of the songs they made for what would become TMP ended up in Book of Souls.

The decision is not surprising. They wouldn't bring a guy young enough to be their son into the band and it's not like the other members of the group ever auditioned. Bruce, H, Nicko, Jan, even Blaze.

Sad but expected news. Nicko created history, played in dozens of songs loved by millions and is an incredibly nice person. I hope he will now have the opportunity to rest properly.

I remember when I first heard Iron Maiden on NPFTD and thought how fantastic the rhythm section sounded and as I got to know the next albums, for obvious reasons, my respect only deepened. I hope the new drummer will have the chance to create something equally legendary.

Well, from time to time, Roy used to indulge in some drunken impulsive ramblings on Facebook which resulted in a lot of grief in the Dickinson camp and it likely ended Bruce and Roy's working relationship.
Thanks for the explanation!
I guess the relationship has mended since that time? Otherwise we probably woundn't have Mandrake Project on our hands.

Ok, but I think they knew about Nicko's retirement before announcing the new ''50th anniv'' tour. I also think it was mutual.
I don’t think they did. I think they were all hoping (Nicko included) that he would see out the 50th anniversary tour too.

IMO I think Nicko has realised quite recently, in the last couple of months maybe, that he has to hang it up. It could be doctors orders as there may be a further issue with his health we don’t know about yet.

That’s why I firmly believe this new drummer is only in place to fulfil the run for your lives tour. Once that’s done I think the band will sit down and make a decision on their future, see how all the remaining band members feel. There might be one or two others that might be feeling it’s time to hang it up.

For now, all I’m expecting for the future of Maiden is one more tour and one more release, a live album from the future past. If I get anything else like a new album and/or the band does decide to carry on after the 50th anniversary tour then I see that as a bonus. Right now I think this is the beginning of the end for touring Maiden.

Not trying to be negative but it has to end sometime and going out celebrating 50 years would be the perfect way. Plus some of the band members will just go off and concentrate on side projects, others will retire and enjoy the fruits of their lifetimes work.

Yeah, I think 2022 was damage limitation, but they all hoped that Nicko would improve for 2023, but sadly he didn't. That's why he offered his resignation and pursued the band to continue.

I am very disappointed. We were hoping that the new drummer may invigorate them and make them sound so much better. With this choice there's very little hope to all that to happen.
You're right. I hate Steve's choices and the conformism of the rest. They know now what would be their replacement in the future. It could be like to know the other me in other universe.
All this shit in two days.

Don't panic, guys. It was announced on Maiden statement that Simon is only here for the 2025 tour. It surely means that they will have a new drummer for the touring 2026. ;)

And for once, I agree with Stjepan Juras that is thinking the same way as I do about Simon Dawson being here only for 2025. After that, in 2026 and the other years after, we will surely have Joe Lazarus or Justin McBrain as live drummers. ;)

Do you know the Black Sabbath's Sabotage album cover ?
Imagine Black Sabbath guys are Maiden and the guys in the mirror are the British Lion's guys. Iron Maiden's future…No avatars but close

Coming back to Nicko's farewell from touring…

I saw the last song and the farewell from the members of the band (except Dave) specially Steve was very cold.
