New Music Thread

Cool. So yesterday Cult of Luna published their new track from the upcoming Mariner album.

I really like this band and dig the track. Female vocals are a nice addition. It brings some freshness to their formula, but it would still be great without it. They simply know how to compose music. Can't wait for the album to come out (April 8).

2016 just got a little bit better with this news! :)

The new Rotting Christ album also just released today!

Oh, yes. I gave it a listen the other day. Weirdly, I hadn't heard any of their records before... I liked this one. A bit monotonous, but overall quite enjoyable. I especially liked the track you posted. Damn, I love this opening static riff. Production on the album is great, guitars sound massive.

Like you say I also mostly find them rather monotonous ( I saw them live once when they were part of a bill with several other metal bands and they bored me to tears live)..but they are arguably the biggest Greek metal band and extremely productive. They also use their Greek history and language as inspiration for their albums and songs which is pretty cool and makes them stick out as a band...So props to them.

This was released late January but should appeal to the power/speed metal/classic metal fans here. A rather experienced band by now. Primal Fear

I liked that bit of new cheese quite a bit, actually. A little leathery, though. :)

Never really gave Primal Fear a chance. Is this new album worth checking out?

Hmm. Not too keen on that one. Although I do like this guy's voice better than Ripper.

Funny because he actually auditioned for Priest when Halford left but yeah obviously, lost to Ripper :D He was in Gamma Ray from 89 to 1994, auditioned to become the singer of Priest but didn't get it and started up Primal Fear :)

Primal Fear. Don't like their new stuff, for a long time to be honest. My three favourite albums in chronological order:
1st album from 1998: Primal Fear
3rd album from 2001: Nuclear Fire
4th album from 2002: Black Sun

And I also like:
5th album 2004: Devil's Ground

Afterwards they changed and I disliked it more and more. Less cool riffs, melodies and solos. More whining, drama and "orchestral" additions. They got softer and less catchy at the same time. Average heard-before music. Less striking melodies.

My advise is: start in the earlier years, but keep in mind, the 2nd album is less good. At least in my opinion. ;)

They have a few good songs but they are very unoriginal. Pretty much Painkiller-era Priest fused with some power metal here and there X 11 albums. Works with the first few albums that Foro mentioned then it's just the same thing over and over and over again. Some bands really shouldn't release albums that often...

I've been waiting a long time for this one... Yesterday Entropia, a befriended band of mine, finally released their new album - Ufonaut. It's hard to classify their genre now. 'Psychedelic black metal' would be the closest, but there are also some elements of post-metal as well as occasional death metal riffing. Synthesizer plays a huge part on this record, which makes them sound pretty unique. Great ideas, well crafted songs, cool vibe, solid production... The album is fantastic from start to finish (with minor issues). Bonus points for the outstanding graphic design.

You can listen to the full album here: http://entropia.bandcamp.com/
Physical copies (CD/LP, both standard and limited) available here: http://arachnophobia.pl/ (free worldwide shipping).

Here are my three favourite tracks, be sure to check them out:

(Plus, the last one - Veritas - for something lighter and more atmospheric if you're interested.)

I hope at least some of you will give the full album a listen. ;) I think it's going to end up as my album of the year (top 3 for sure).

For a moment, I thought you were talking to me, as Veritas is my handle literally everywhere else on the internet. Only Maidenfans knows me as LC.

I will for sure! Already really liked the stuff I heard from the album beforehand. I'll let you know how I liked it :ok:

There is also new stuff from Deströyer 666 who are releasing their new album next week. It's already possible to stream it in full + watch a few new videos.

No one else discovered anything cool this year?

Well, Entombed A.D is out with new stuff. If you're unfamiliar with Entombed A.D it's basically the last incarnation of Entombed before they split but with a new guitarist I think. Still, very much later Entombed style, just didn't have the rights to keep the name going I guess?!
