The truth is they have made a very good songs since 1999. I could compare some of them to the classics. But it wasnt written in the 80s1) Hell on Earth
2) Ghost of the Navigator
3) The Reincarnation of BB
Honorable mentions: The Wicker Man, Out of the Silent Planet, Rainmaker, Paschendale, the whole AMOLAD album, the Alchemist and Stratego
I thought about to put longest day. One of the most epic and nearly filmographic songs they have made. The chorus,is imposible not to sing it1. The Longest Day - Among my top 5 Maiden songs! Instantly loved it after listening for the first time. The slow built up during the intro, leading to the sudden 'explosion' into the pre-chorus is just awesome. The harmonization part right before the soaring guitars solo is my favourite part of the song. I used to blast it on my way to University back in the day, so I have some fond memories associated with it too.
2. Speed Of Light - 2015 was the year I got into Maiden (and proper Metal in general) and it has been a wild ride since then! I remember the promotion for The Book Of Souls, hardly a few months after I got into the band and it was really exciting. This was the first song released as the lead single. Loved the music video for it and played it continuously after the first listen. Not to mention, I was at the peak of my college activities during the time, so it somewhat became my soundtrack as well. And did I tell you, the lead harmony has been my ringtone SINCE LAST 10 YEARS.
3. Rainmaker - One of my favourite songs by Murray, one of the best reunion songs and one of the best songs by the band! Love the overall atmosphere of the song. The guitar lead right after the solo is just mesmerizing! The music video may be silly at parts but the shots of band playing the song is just badass and really adds to the experience of enjoying the song.
Hon'ble mentions:
No More Lies
Out Of The Silent Planet
The Pilgrim
Lord Of Light
There's a Steve-ism in the lyrics that really annoys me but other than that, perfect, perfect, perfect.
How bad the rest of the album is.I expected to find Hell On Earth on top of a lot of peoples fave lists, and it's definitely a super great track, but I never understood why people consider it to be THAT outstanding. What is it that makes this song SO special for so many here?
Yes, agreed. How bad the rest of the album is.
It's the combination of those great melodies, that great chorus and those great lyrics combined - the combination of different elements that individually alone in itself is great enough to be considered scalebreakers.I expected to find Hell On Earth on top of a lot of peoples fave lists, and it's definitely a super great track, but I never understood why people consider it to be THAT outstanding. A man after my own heart. Couldn’t agree more!1. The Longest Day - Among my top 5 Maiden songs! Instantly loved it after listening for the first time. The slow built up during the intro, leading to the sudden 'explosion' into the pre-chorus is just awesome.
