Yes, because Mangini was already hired and quit his teaching job. If he tried to return before the audition, I think that they would have allowed him to come back.

Out of curiosity - when Bruce left Iron Maiden, did you think that he would come back?

I always thought Bruce would come back at some point (like a farewell deal), I never thought he would come back and be in the band for another decade plus.  I am really happy he did, but when he left, it seemed he and Maiden were done for good.

They released a 4 song + 1 cover EP, and it sounds very good, and I'm more looking forward to their full-length album than DT's (mostly because AM doesn't have James LaCheese ).
