Well-produced, but overlong and repetitive album. There's a solid 40 minute album of the good stuff from this and the previous album, once you eliminate all the slog.

I finally found a song on this album that I like parts of.
Mostly when I listen to new (anything after AJFA) Metallica nowadays, I struggle to listen all the way through a song. I typically listen for about 20-30 seconds and then turn it off.
Hardwired to self destruct was listenable and enjoyable for what it is.
On this new album, I couldn't listen all the way through

They just remind me of Load/Reload/ and sound really generic and have the worst of Metallica in them. Really cringy macho stuff.
But I listened to Inamorata this morning, and I thought it was pretty good (well, some of it anyway). The drum tone is yuck, the drum beat is very simple (I prefer something more interesting), the lyrics are very, very repetitive, the wah guitar sound is just flogged to death ('comon Kirk, get rid of the wah) but I think at the 5:20 mark when it gets quiet the song all of a sudden starts to sound interesting, Hetfield's voice is much better when he is soft rather than trying to sound angry in every song, the outro solo is nice, finally some nice soloing where I'm not overly distracted by the wah. The song is way too long for what it has to offer, but has a couple of nice parts AND I made it all the way through the song, so there's that at least.

I couldn´t get through the whole album, I had to skip each track because the plodding goes on and on and on. Most of the riffs just sound the same. Some good ideas here and there and James´ voice sounds really good but I don´t feel any desire to come to listen this album ever again.

I listened to the album in the cinema on April 13. It was actually a great experience, but the album...
I’m not against long songs with repetition per se and don't always immediately think that that should have been shortened if it makes sense songwriting-wise to my ears.
But here the songwriting is, at least in large parts, weak and aimless imo.
The members made comments on the songs and Robert used the word "jam" a lot, haha.
All the guitar work is terribly similar. If you wanted to play through the album as a guitarist, you'd have to be careful not to get confused about what part of the album you're playing at any given moment.

Lux Aeterna doesn't sound like Load or Reload at all, it sounds like Kill 'em All era mixed with NWOBHM.

The intro sounds a little like spit out the bone, the rest sounds like something from garage days, but with load/reload tones on vocals and guitars.
I've grown really bored and tired of Metallica, but still I check out their new albums to see if anything different comes up. I haven't bothered going through the whole album. Maybe I'll not bother even tasting any of the next one. Anyway, will be interesting to see when they come up with a new album when, if ever I give any of it a listen. I'm surprised I bothered this time around.
Does anyone know if Hammet got to write any songs this time? or did he just turn up to play solos?

I got maybe 45ish seconds into the new album before I turned it off. The main riff that kicks things off didn't do anything for me and I also had the new Overkill album to listen to (which was good). I may pick this album back up but I'm still put off by how bad the album artwork is and how long the album is.

I've only gone through one listen, admittedly skipping parts of songs. Overall It just didn't grab me, really don't like the production. For those who say Bruce is to low in the mix on Senjutsu it seems a lot worse for James.

Give it another chance. Find the right moment. Obviously the Overkill album is much better but this album is good enough just for Hetfield riffs and some harmonies.

Yeah the last song is Sabbath and there is another one in the middle that reminds to Sabbath's National Acrobat or one of songs of Sabbath bloody Sabbath album. There is even a plagiarism or tribute (I would call plagiarism) to Ritchie Blackmore's guitar lick of Speed King in the third song

Of all the things to not like an album on.
I mean, the music is what matters, who gives a toss about what the picture is on the album cover.
And really, if you don't like the length of an album, I mean, pick a couple of songs, put them aside, and listen to them in a couple of years, pretend an EP came out.
Anyway, to each his own.

Well, like with each album they've been releasing since the Black, I always try to give it a full listen, then get back to it song by song but as years go by the same feeling remains...it's not plain bad, it's just that most of the times I almost forget I'm listening to it because, well, because while it isn't bad, it is just so average that I fail to catch a moment where I'll be like "whaouhhh, what a great riff, what a great melody, what a great guitar solo, I want to listen to it again".
When albums were shorter that didn't bug me as much but with their last albums, each and every song is soooo long that after two or three songs I have to take a break because I'm just bored. But I think the main point here is that there is not a single song that I want to listen to more than once, its just average stuff. Some will pretend its great because its Metallica...well I tried to do it as well with their last albums and "failed" and I think this one is gonna to end the same way...if I happen to come across to some of these songs I won't skip itt but I won't be trying to listen to it at all costs like "oh this one's so cool, so great, I'll put it directly in one of my favorite playlists cuz I want to listen to it over and over again".
