Fade to Black

Creeping Death is losing? Seriously?

Fuck mistake clicked on Creeping Death! Eg. want to vote against Fade To Black.
Does this mean we can give creeping death the 10-9 lead atm? I think this post should be taken into consideration.

Re: Metallica Survivor FINAL BATTLE: Fade To Black vs Creeping Death

Fade To Black is winning :edmetal:

Re: Metallica Survivor FINAL BATTLE: Fade To Black vs Creeping Death

So I guess Fade to Black wins by 1, if we count the screwed up vote by Zare.

Wow, there certainly have been some amazing finals/semifinals this year! First Seasons in the Abyss beats Raining Blood by 1, then a tie between Stairway and Achillies, then a buzzer beater by SMX to give Paschendale the win over Powerslave in the March Madness Semis, and now Fade to Black beats Creeping Death by 1 vote in the Metallica final :) What an exciting year!

Much more of a "typical" top ten this year. As the only (known) forum member to have seen Cliff live, I approve.

Thanks for playing, everyone!

It was a good top 10, besides One not being in there :p Where did you see Cliff? Thats awesome.

Fade To Black needs to move back down 2 where it belongs.

Denver, 1986 - Metallica touring behind Puppets, opening for Ozzy on Ultimate Sin tour.

I was about 20 or 30 feet from Cliff, it was indeed awesome.

Did they play Leper Messiah? From what I've heard they don't play it often.

Wow, cool :)

Amazing that One didn't even reach the top 10. I am glad about The Four Horsemen, though.

This is the setlist SMX has seen (May 15: soon 25 years ago):

Main Set
1. Battery
2. Master of Puppets
3. For Whom the Bell Tolls
4. Ride the Lightning
5. Welcome Home (Sanitarium)
6. Seek & Destroy
7. Creeping Death
Encore
8. Am I Evil?
9. Damage, Inc.

I think there are 6 top-7(!) songs in there.

I'm not happy with the winner, actually I hated the results. Disposable Heroes couldn't make the Top 10, Blackened placed only 10th, The Frayed Ends of Sanity became the worst song off the Justice, Fade to Black won but One is not even in the Top 10, Fight Fire with Fire eliminated too fucking early. And Fade to Black is not even in my Top 20.

Here is my Top Ten :

1. Blackened
2. Creeping Death
3. Disposable Heroes
4. Ride the Lightning
5. Fight Fire with Fire
6. Damage, Inc.
7. The Frayed Ends of Sanity
8. The Four Horsemen
9. For Whom the Bell Tolls
10. The Call of Ktulu / Master of Puppets

Anyway, thanks for hosting SMX !  :ok:

Yeah, still shocked at the early elimination of One, and disappointed that Disposable Heroes didn't make it, but glad The four Horsemen made it. Still a reasonable top 10 even if Master of Puppets is about 30 places too high  :innocent:

Cheers for hosting SMX!

OK top ten.  I don't like the Four Horsemen, and Creeping Death should have won, but I'm very glad no Death Magnetic songs made it this time.

I'm not really satisfied with Top 10. Yes, Fade To Black is my favorite Metallica song, but I miss some songs from Death Magnetic and Metallica (album) in Top 10...

SMX, thanks for hosting

That doesn't sound quite right. I don't remember Am I Evil at all, although I do recall every other song. Perhaps they played the Am I Evil intro leading into Damage, and I'm not remembering.

Edit, I just realized something ... at the time of that concert, I didn't know Am I Evil. Had never heard it. So if they played it, I wouldn't have recognized it. But there was certainly no entire song I didn't know, so it couldn't have been more than a bit of Am I Evil.

There was no "encore" for Metallica. They were opening for Ozzy. They never left the stage. They did say Damage would be the last song, it had the same sort of effect as an encore, but it wasn't one.

Also note the ticket price. $16. I miss 1986.

What an incredible setlist and show that would have been to attend. Which did you like more on the night, Ozzy or Metallica?

The year is right below the word PRESENTS.

I did my research (sources Metallica.com http://www.metallica.com/tour/may-15-1986-denver.asp
and http://www.encycmet.com/live/217.shtml ) and if you can find other info (besides your own memory), I am curious to see it.

Here another source:

Check the Denver setlist. The same.

I saw the year. I used have one of those, after all. I meant, I miss 1986 ticket prices. ::)

And like I said: if they played it, it was a portion of Am I Evil as an intro to Damage. Just they did at other venues on that tour, as you can see on Cliff 'Em All. I simply didn't remember it 25 years later.

For the record, I trust my own eyewitness memory more than any internet source. Sure, I may forget some things, but you could throw 100 internet sources of them at me and it wouldn't matter. For jeebus' sake, I was actually there.

So Foro, you're probably right. As I said in my first post, when I said my memory may be missing something. If you prefer to trust the internet instead of an eyewitness, that's your call.
