Maidenfans Rankings

We restart on the day the album comes out, but there's no expectation to vote right away. We expect most people to absorb TBOS before voting.

Do you all have a plan to immediately restart them when the album releases, or wait a few months?
I'll restart them at a rate of 1-2 albums a month, most likely, starting with Iron Maiden and ending with The Book of Souls. Should give several months for it to sink in.

Sit is bright and clear and the music is tight and focused. Something very important, to me anyway, is the artwork really matches the music. This is something maiden mastered (along with Riggs ) back in the 80s.

Iron Maiden survivor will start then too. Seems early at first but when you realize it'll be a couple months or so before TBOS joins in it isn't too bad. Plus it's fun to get the early impression of the album and compare it to later Survivor and daily song games to see how the album has aged.

With the albums poll, it's only starting on day of release to provide the option for those who decide quickly. I'll personally be taking some time before I vote.

Oh you're talking about the album polls. Sorry misunderstood, thought you were talking about the daily song threads.

No, you're right. I'm just adding to what I said before about album polls. We're just talking about all the polls here, basically.

All the polls are kept, however, and go into a historical poll-of-polls ranking. Which I am going to start arbitrarily assigning decreasing weighting to.

If historical polls are kept in archive it would be interesting to create a graph or chart tracking the album rankings over an extensive period. Ideally each historical poll would have been conducted at a similar time after each new album release to maintain maximum consistency. To allow every album to have the "freshness favouritism effect" in at least one poll each we could conduct retrospective polls for every album release dating back to the self-titled debut. But if we choose to take this path there must be two rules introduced to prevent bias: 1) you can only vote if you were a fan at the time of release. 2) you must rank albums in the order of your preference at that exact period in time. Only with this method will the data be clean.

I don't have time to set up the retro polls or collate the statistics but am happy to do some analysis and create the final graph if someone wants to kick things off.

That "freshness favouritism effect" (I call it "bias for the present") is an interesting matter indeed.

Official Maidenfans.com Rankings have been updated.

The Maidenfans have spoken! Please note that the poll relaunch has begun. Details are here:

Complete details are found here:

Important note: The total rankings have been altered to reduce the weight of older rankings. Comparisons are taken from the last time I actually wrote all this crap out, in 2010.
