Rime of the Ancient Mariner vs. Wasted Years

RotAM is not only the best Maiden song, the best Heavy Metal song for me. So the vote is obvious. 13-8 is really interesting btw.

The Longest Day vs. 2 A.M.

2 A.M. is really underrated. It's just like Afraid to Shoot Strangers for me, rise slowly, and finish him with the harmony/solo. My vote goes to it.

For the Greater Good of God vs. Ghost of the Navigator

Ghost of the Navigator is a better song overall, they both got fantastic moments.

To Tame a Land vs. Face in the Sand

I'm surprised that FitS got 4 votes. There's too much difference. TTaL that is.

Moonchild vs. The Wicker Man

The Wicker Man's main riff and solo are better. Moonchild is a decent song but somewhat overrated.

Revelations vs. Judas Be My Guide

Revelations that is but I like Judas Be My Guide too. It has grown so much on me.

The Aftermath vs. The Number of the Beast

I don't like the both so much  but TNotB is far better.

Children of the Damned vs. Don't Look to the Eyes of a Stranger

DLttEoaS is not that bad, actually is very good but that's Children of the Damned.

Here's your Harris Division roundup for the first quarter of Round 1 of Maidenfans March Madness!

Rime of the Ancient Mariner School of Aquatics is edging out Wasted Years University 13-8. WYU was expected to qualify higher, but as was noted earlier, they suspended their best player for having sex, which is against their Mormon values. The Albatrosses are expected to win a close victory over the Golden Years.

The Longest Day State is handily beating 2 A.M. University 15-6. The Roosevelts were expected to give a good showing in the first round, but nobody thinks they can upset the Albatrosses in the second round of March Madness.

For The Greater Good of God Seminary is behind Ghost of the Navigator Tech 12-9. The GotNT Sirens were expected to qualify harder but had a poor showing down the qualification stretch. Look for them to be in the upper half of the bracket next year.

To Tame A Land Technical College came out just as strong as expected in the Desert Bowl, and are trouncing Face in the Sand State 17-4. Nobody expected the Martians to be here, and the Muad'dibs are reminding them who the masters of the desert wastes are.

The Moonchild Divinity College Sinners are barely holding out against The Wicker Man Tech Flames, 11-10. This one could go either way, and I fully expect the Sinners to fight the Flames to the end on this one.

Revelations Catholic College is giving the boots to the Judas Be My Guide School For Satan. The Hellfires just can't hold up against the Diviners, Tom. It's 19-2 and I don't think the score gets any prettier for the Hellfires.

The Aftermath Chemical Engineering College is getting thumped by The Number of the Beast State. The 666s are up on the Barbed Wires 16-5 in what should have been a close game. If the 666s pull it out, Round 2 will be very interesting.

Children of the Damned College for the Gifted is shutting out the Don't Look to the Eyes of A Stranger University Gazers. The Damiens are handing an overranked college their heads, and reminding them why amateurs shouldn't come to Maidenfans March Madness.

More exciting play in the Harris Division to come, as teams play for the Blisters Trophy!

Rime of the Ancient Mariner: My favourite Maiden song, containing the finest three minutes of heavy metal, eats Wasted Years for breakfast - and yet I love Wasted Years as well.

The Longest Day: Yes, it does get a bit repetitive in the second half. Still, the first half is bone-chilling. 2AM is a fine melancholic song, but doesnt reach that high.

Ghost of the Navigator: Another sail-the-seven-seas adventure, shorter than Rime, but almost as exciting at times. Great melodies, and nice reference to To Tame A Land with the chord changes in the final part.

To Tame A Land: I'm not too keen on the lyrics, just listing a load of things taken from Dune, but musically this song is on par with the other epic closers from this lineup. Face In The Sand feels a bit long-winded, but a nice song it is.

Moonchild: Last in a streak of four fabulous openers, with cryptic lyrics full of references, and with a threatening mood which sets the stage for the rest of the album pretty well. The Wicker Man is good, but loses out by a half meter.

Revelations: Another classic written by Bruce, this one also has plenty of stuff to decipher - plus it has great solos. Edges out Judas, which is one of my favourites off FOTD.

The Number of the Beast: Overrated? No, I don't think so. This song deserves the classic status it has. Great riffing, great singing, fantastic solos, plus the way the lyrics have sparked discussions over and over again.

Children of the Damned: Bone-chilling and exciting from beginning to end - pretty much the opposite of its opponent which contains a lot of dead-time.
