Re: Maidenfans March Madness - Dickinson Division (Round 1)

Hallowed Be Thy Name vs. Out of the Shadows

Yeah.

Genghis Khan vs. Run Silent Run Deep

Genghis Khan is one of my least favorites from Killers, Run Silent Run Deep is my favorite from NPFTD. RSRD is by far a better song in my opinion.

Blood Brothers vs. Remember Tomorrow

Close call (as you can see in the results) but Remember Tomorrow by a neck.

Seventh Son of a Seventh Son vs. Prodigal Son

Another easy one, SSoaSS that is.

22 Acacia Avenue vs. Afraid to Shoot Strangers

Hardest one. 22 Acacia Avenue is so underrated, is an amazing song. But Afraid to Shoot Strangers is a little, just a little better. Especially because of its atmosphere.

The Trooper vs. Lightning Strikes Twice

Even though it's overplayed, The Trooper is a fucking classic. I like LST so much though.

The Ides of March vs. The Nomad

The Nomad's interlude finishes the deal.

Infinite Dreams vs. Back in the Village

Easiest one after the first. Infinite Dreams.

Re: Maidenfans March Madness - Dickinson Division (Round 1)

In the top-ranked Dickinson Division, we have a few close races, and a few surprising runaways. Let's get to the highlights.

Hallowed Be Thy Name University is thumping Out of the Shadows State 21-1. The Hangmen were expected to execute their opponents and they've done just that. They're the hands-down favourite for the H Trophy and they're showing why.

Run Silent, Run Deep Naval Academy is losing to Genghis Khan State. The Mongols are a tough opponent and the U-Boats may see their tournament hopes torpedoed. It's only 12-10, so it's a close race.

Blood Brothers Tech and Remember Tomorrow Air Force Academy are neck and neck, 11-11. We might see some overtime between the Dios and the Fires if this keeps up!

Seventh Son of a Seventh Son Pagan School is giving the Prodigal Son College Lamias a solid thumping. The Chosen Ones were expected to go deep, and they're putting on a dominant performance here, winning 20-2 at this point in the game.

The 22, Acacia Avenue University Nightwalkers are losing a surprise upset to the 11th seeded Veterans from Afraid to Shoot Strangers College of Military Arts. This could be a Gers-worthy upset!

The Trooper State is giving the sword, as fully expected, to the Lightning Strikes Twice Tech Bolts. The Light Brigaders are a tough squad to beat, and they're showing their legs here. It's a 20-2 drubbing.

The Ides of March School Caesars are getting stabbed in the back by The Nomad Tech Wanderers. The Wanderers are up 18-4 and could go deep in their bracket.

Infinite Dreams University is putting the Back in the Village State Sixes to sleep, 21-1. The Dreamers are another division favourite and may not see any real competition until they meet the Hangmen in a hypothetical Elite Eight matchup.

Watch this space for more highlights!

Re: Maidenfans March Madness - Dickinson Division (Round 1)

This division will be a cakewalk for Hallowed. Although, I'm sure Hallowed would breeze to victory in any division.

Re: Maidenfans March Madness - Dickinson Division (Round 1)

Hallowed Be Thy Name (easy)
Genghis Khan
Blood Brothers
Seventh Son of a Seventh Son (easy)
Afraid to Shoot Strangers (very close, 22 Acacia Ave is currently rapidly climbing up my rankings)
The Trooper (another very close one, I do consider The Trooper to be overrated)
The Nomad
Infinite Dreams (easy)

Couple of really close matches!

Re: Maidenfans March Madness - Dickinson Division (Round 1)

I am stunned that 22 is losing to Afraid to Shoot Strangers. Fucking stunned.

Re: Maidenfans March Madness - Dickinson Division (Round 1)

Can we make the rounds a bit shorter? I think everyone has voted already.

Re: Maidenfans March Madness - Dickinson Division (Round 1)

Hallowed Be Thy Name: It is in my top three, has always been there, and a decent effort like Out Of The Shadows just is no challenge. Credit to the latter for Dave's constant soloing throughout the song.

Ghenghis Khan: A groovy instrumental filled with twists and turns wins this one, despite RSRD being one of my favourites off No Prayer.

Blood Brothers: Heartfelt lyrics, very melodic, great solos. Blood Brothers just touches something inside me, it should really be the anthem of 2000s Maiden.

Seventh Son: The entire song is really atmospheric, melodic and dramatic - and the instrumental second half blows most other instrumental parts of Maiden songs out of the water.

Afraid To Shoot Strangers: Well, 22AA has aggression and good solos, but so has ATSS - and the latter has more interesting lyrics.

The Trooper: Not the ultimate short Maiden song, that price goes to Aces High, but this one is pretty damn good as well. Lyrics that take you straight to the battlefield, tons of energy and great solos.

The Nomad: Despite the instrumental part being more or less a rip off from a Beckett song, they have really used it well. The solos are good as well. The Ides of March, although good, feels just like an intro.

Infinite Dreams: A song which changes all the time, again interesting lyrics that make you wonder (no pun intended) what goes on inside 'Arry's head. Great riffs, great scream by Bruce, everything is great. Back In The Village has great guitar work and funny lyrics, but it doesn't stand up here.
